ATI 2016 assigning a second letter to a usb3 drive??
Has anyone encountered behavior like this before: a backup starts normally, runs for a while, then claims to be unable to find the file it's trying to back up to, even though this is still sitting there able to be accessed by windows explorer; but, meanwhile, it has been assigned a second additional drive letter, so that what was once, say, m: is now both m: and j:. And not, evidently, findable by the ATI browse dialog even though it's sitting there plain as day.
Obviously some kind of usb driver problem might be involved, but why would it show up only when running ATI?

Yes, I've tried two ports. It could obviously be either an ATI issue or a usb driver issue, maybe with a contribution from the drive itself (one of the 2G Toshiba USB3 ones)... no other instances of anything like this here suggests that ATI is not to blame. Full backup presumably hits the drivers harder than anything else I do over usb, which would explain why the problem pops up with ATI, but I've thought of something I can do to test that a bit (but it will take some time to do it). Thanks!

Avery, please keep us informed with feedback on what you find, these can be interesting problems and any solution could help another user at some time.

Avery,
What OS version are you using? Is your OS 64 or 32 bit? What size is your USB 3.0 drive, greater than 2TB?

The OS is Win7 Ultimate 64, the drive a Toshiba DTP 120 2T, the mobo a GA970A-D3P with the drive plugged directly into one of the two usb3 slots on the back atm. The reason I suspect ATI is that the problem consists of flipping between two drive letters that I do use for backups, rather than other random ones, & it does seem that ATI sometimes tries to 'remember too much' (if I correctly recall the contents of some threads here). But hardware is also a very plausible suspect, or maybe some wierd interaction.

Ok, just checking that were not using an OS that might not be able to address more than 2TB, looks like you DO NOT have that problem. Since you use both drive letters in scheduled tasks (backups) then I concur with Steve in contacting support.

I've made several complaints about the issue, actually, no response. My plan is to do a full system backup with another program and see what happens.

How have you made your complaints? Did you do so at this link: http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/contact-us.html

No, via the feedback function in the program. But I think I should run my experiment, which might absolve Acronis, before complaining again.

Ok, if no luck try the link.

Running the full backup with 2017 and thru one of the back USB3 ports on the motherboard did not trigger the drive letter problem, so Acronis would appear to be absolved ... even if it pops up when I do it next (months and months from now!) thru a front panel box via various cables, it can be ascribed to hardware rather than ATIH, I think. (that took a while, but I'm a user, not a tester!)

Avery, thanks for the update / feedback. Hope all continues to work without problem for you.
