Backup Chain management

Thread needs solution

I have searched the knowledgebase and have not as yet found this info.  I apologize if i have jsut missed it.  My question relates to managing backup chains.   It is two fold.

First, when you enable automatic backup clean and you indicate to keep no more than 5 recent version chains, when does Acronis True Image perform the cleanup?  Before a backup, at some default time?

Also, is there any way to initiate the automatic clean up manually?  For example if you reduce the number of recent chains to retain and want to clean up the old backups after the setting change.

Thanks!

Automatic cleanup runs after a successful backup has taken place and a new version chain has been started.

So in your example to keep no more than 5 recent version chains, cleanup will only take place to delete the oldest version chain when the 6th new version chain has been started successfully..

There is no way to initiate automatic cleanup manually.

If you edit / change the backup task configuration to reduce the number of version chains, then this has the effect of resetting the count of images stored in the backup version chain.

You can manually delete old version chains via Windows Explorer, though this is not recommended as you will get error messages when your backup task runs because of 'missing version X'.  If you do delete version chains manually, then run a Validation of the backup task and take the Ignore option when it reports that versions are missing.
