Backup completing but with error on every attempt

Thread needs solution

Starting about two weeks ago my backups started to complete with errors. All of them.  I have run dskchk /f/r on all disk including my network "WD Cloud Mirror" disks.  A full backup of my C and D drives is typically about 550GB.  The backup will run for about 1.5 - 2 hours before sending out the email message below.  I have only included the parts after errors were reported.

I have also manually deleted my past backups files to force a new full backup, but the same results.  The backup still reports error messages and then attempts several incremental backups after the full back-up on the same day until it eventy runs out of disk.  During backup no one is on the computer, so maybe Windows 10 is causing the issue.  Regardless True Image 2016 no longer works on my PC.  Any suggestions?

Dennis,

Please see the official response from Acronis in post: https://forum.acronis.com/forum/119938#comment-367819 about this particular issue.

There are two possible options that may be contributing to or causing this issue - one as alluded to in the above response is a potential corruption of the Acronis Database files that store information on your backup tasks.

The second is that there may be a Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) issue which can give rise to problems with backup activities.  VSS is used to create a snapshot image of the data to be backed up to circumvent the issue of trying to backup open / System / locked files such as those used by Windows OS.

If we deal with the first of these options as that seems the most likely, then you can try to do the following to cause a clean copy of the Acronis Database files to be created:

  1. Stop all Acronis Services and Processes - with Windows 10 you can do this via the Windows Task Manager (right-click on the bottom status bar and select Task Manager), then select / end or stop the Acronis items shown on the Processes and Services page tabs.
  2. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\ - this may be hidden on some systems, if so, change the Explorer View options to show hidden files & folders.
  3. Rename the Database folder at the above location to Database.OLD
  4. Restart the main Acronis True Image application which will restart all other required services & processes, and in turn will create a new Database folder and files.

Note: that you will lose your backup task history that was stored in the old copy of the database files but this will be repopulated as your backup tasks are run again.

You say that you delete backups manually.  Does that mean you delete them with the True Image application or Windows File Explorer or?   If you are doing deletions not using the True Image application stop doing that at once!  Such actions contribute to database corruption which Steve has told you how to fix.  If you wish to delete backups use the True Image application so that it can adjust the database accordingly.
