Backup stops at 93.93GB (9%) everytime

Thread needs solution

I'm running Acronis True Image 2016 on a 2009 iMac, running Windows 10 (bootcamp, not virtural).  My backups start just fine, but then stop at the same place.  The program is not frozen, because the time estimation continues to get longer and longer, but the backup will never complete.  I have tried 'normal' and sector-by-sector. Both with similar results. With Sector by Sector, it gets to 93.93GB but then it just seems to stop.  the activity light on my USD drive stops flashing, which is a clue that it's no longer writing to that disk. No error message, just seems to be stuck.  Any suggestions welcomed!

Gordo, welcome to these user forums.

There can be various different reasons for the situation you are seeing, such as:

Bad sectors on the source or target drives involved in the backup task.

An issue with the Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) involving the snapshot data being used to backup system / locked files.

Other unknown issue.

For a normal Windows 10 system, I would recommend running a CHKDSK /F /R against both drives but I have no experience of Windows 10 running in Bootcamp on an iMac, so not sure if this is possible or not?

For the VSS potential issue, see post: https://forum.acronis.com/forum/45832#comment-346558 which offers a method of disabling VSS for a specific task script and defaulting to using the Acronis snapshot utility that was used in earlier versions of the product (2014 and earlier).

To check for the 'unknown' issues, please download a copy of the Log File Viewer app and use this to check for any messages in the Acronis log files that may shed light on this problem.

Thanks for your suggestions Steve - I will try them out when I get home tonight or tomorrow and post a follow-up.  I am pretty sure it's not an issue with the target disk, as I have tried 2 different target disks and the issue happens on both (at the same point in the backup).  But I am pretty sure I can do the CHKDSK as you suggest, so I'll give that a short first.

Not sure if this helps, but it does not look like the Windows version of Acronis is fully supported on Bootcamp...

Acronis True Image PC version is not compatible with Bootcamp partition. Use Acronis True Image Mac version to backup your entire Mac including the Bootcamp partition.

Perhaps it is getting hung up somewhere on the disk that OS X recovery may have some access too.  As far as I have read, you need to use the Macintosh version and backup the entire disk as the Mac version does not allow you to separate the bootcamp parition.
