Can't unmount backup drive

Thread needs solution

Hello all,

I was trying to mount a recovery image and it was hanging.  It had been working to mount for several minutes and I thought there was an issue so I killed the Acronis process.  After doing so, the new drive ended up showing up on my PC anyway as being mounted.  I can navigate the directory structure but can't open anything.  In addition, the main problem, I can't unmount it.  When I right click on the drive there is no "Acronis" context menu with an unmount option.

I tried mounting the backup again and it later worked successfully and didn't take a long time (I'm not sure why it just worked later on as I didn't do anything different).  In addition, this mounted drive when I right-click on it has the Acronis context menu where I can unmount it successfully.

I essentially have a rogue mounted "G:\" drive that I am not sure how to get rid of.

Any suggestions on how to remove this?  I have tried restarting and powering off and nothing is working.

Thanks in advance.

Using Windows Run feature do the following:

Run regedit.exe and navigate to HKLM\SYSTEM\MountedDevives. Delete the keys that show your unwanted drive letter. Reboot and see if the unwanted drive letter comes back.
