Clone or Backup

Thread needs solution

I am confused by the language this software uses to explain its functions. I am switching operating systems and want to create either a "backup" or a "clone" to bring me back to where I left off in case I  do not like the new OS. I do not want to have to reinstall any OS or spend countless hours fetching programs from clouds. I have no interest in backing up personal files. I  have quadrouple redundancy on my personal files. My concern is not spending multiple days reinstalling software. I only want to recover a backup and have everything work the way it did before the OS switch. I am thinking it is the "Clone" feature I should be using. But it is not clear the way the backup feature is described.

Hello, Gilbert!

Sounds like what you need is a backup, actually.

Cloning is what you would use, for example, if you bought a new hard drive (to replace the older one), and wanted to make an exact copy of your older disk. So cloning requires two disks.

If you create a backup of your system disk, you store it somewhere (e.g. on a NAS, or an external disk) and later you can recover your system from this backup (this seems to better fit your scenario).
