Cloning Issue

Thread needs solution

Hi, I hope you guys deal with know something about WD ATI. So currently I have a computer whose HDD has a lot of bad sectors. I got a new drive and want to clone the drive using Acronis Western Digital. When i set up the cloning it's fine when I set up to reboot it's fine and goes into the Acronis startup screen showing the Progress bar. It's at this point before the bar moves or anything occurs the system instantly reboots and plops me back into Windows. All attempts have yielded the same result. I had an old USB HDD installed so unplugged that, and all other non-essential USB plus other ports. I have used WD edition to clone 2 other computers before without a hitch but those were Windows XP and 7, this new one is Windows 10. I wanted to add I have the latest update for Acronis from Western Digital. but their version just says "33" So no idea where it lands.
I just can't figure out why it doesn't go anywhere. So I'd like to ask...
Can the issue lie with the old HDD that has bad sectors?
If so, can this be resolved?
Is there something I'm missing?
I'm trying it on a Windows 10 computer does the WD edition not support Win 10 yet, and that's my issue?!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

The problem may be realted to the bad sectors. I assume you have done a scan to correct as many problems as possible with the HDD.

I am not familiar with the WD OEM version of Acronis. Does it allow you to create a recovery disk? If so, you may have better luck with the recovery disk. Also, cloneing can go wrong, so it is always a good idea to create a backup before trying cloning. Cloning is best done using recovery media.

If the WD version does not allow this, I suggest you download an evaluation version of ATI 2017 and once you have the trial key, you should be able to use it to create recovery media.

Dave...welcome to these user forums.   Ian's analysis & recommendations are spot on.  I recommend you read the following link where Steve Smith covers cloning.

With bad sectors, your only option may be performing a "disk mode / full partiton list" backup of the HDD with the bad sectors.  Then restore that backup to your new drive.

Yes it does allow the creation of a recovery disk, also thanks! I'll post with how it goes.
