Deleting Backup Versions

Thread needs solution

Since upgrading to 2016, I've found that you are expected to reboot the PC to the bootable media just to delete versions of backups.

Why is this so? It never used to be like this. Absolutely ridiculous!!

It is not so, you can select any backup task in the backup list in the GUI, click on the circle with the down arrow symbol on the right side of the task and choose Delete from the resulting menu.  You will then have 2 options, remove backup task settings only or remove settings and the backup file as well.

Both options are not what I want. I want to delete only the backup file (normally an old one)

To delete an entire backup:

I DON'T want to delete an entire backup. Just a few older backup files.  I shouldn't have to reboot the PC to the bootable media, to do this!

With 2016, there is no easy way to delete older backup files. There is a workaround though:

- move the files manually using Windows explorer to another directory on the same disk,

- double click on the latest backup archive that belongs to a chain you deleted files from

- make sure you can open the backup files from the backup chains you need normally, to ensure your backup chains are still valid

- if ATI alerts you that the versions you deleted are not present, choose ignore version

- if everything is fine in the backup chains you need, deleted the moved files manually,

- note: validating the backup or "recover files" achieves the same result, but takes more time.

Thanks Pat

Of course the question arises .... Why oh why was this option removed from the app. Telling users to boot to bootable media to do this is absolutely ridiculous!

Hopefully, the designers at Acronis will re-instate this option in an up-coming update of the software, else, when it's time to update to the 2017 version, I'll be going elsewhere.

100% Agree you should be able to delete backups from within the application WITHOUT having to reboot to a CD to load the offline version.

Please let us know ASAP when this functionality will be restored. Hopefully before the end of 2015.

Would you reboot windows to delete a file in safe mode?

Whoever took this out needs to seriously consider what is meant by usability because they obviously have no idea.

But then its the same with log files its not easy to locate those, rubbish naming convention and a manual search to find the relevent ones.

If such functions continue to go missing then it going to become very like the Oozlum Bird https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oozlum_bird

But then that may be a good idea because no one will buy something that does not exist or have the functionality required.

I just upgraded to 2016 from 2014 and the first thing I tried to do was delete some older backup versions.  Very simple in 2014; impossible in 2016!

When I was in the Air Force, we had the acronym FUBAR.  Definitely applies here!
