I thought this wold be ntuitive. Man was I wrong.
I have been making full, then diff backups with TI 2016.
Windows 7x64 is failing to update, so I thought I'd go back in time a day with TI.
Not so easy. I opened TI and clicked Recover PC hoping that some Wizard would replace my C: drive from my backups on my external USB G: drive.
What am I doing wrong?
Here is the error.
Failed to open G:\Entire PC (Computer name)_diff_b3_s5_v1.tib
Event code: 0x00640BEA+0x0064023C+0x00AC0041+0x00AC0040+0x01AF0006+0x01AF0005+0x00040011+0x0000FFF0+0x80070002
I did manually delete some previous backups figuring that the most recent full backup and it's following 'diffs' would take care of the backup needs.
Should I ask "why is TI looking for "-diff_b3_" when those are gone and we are now on "_diff_b4_"?
On My external drive resides:
Entire PC (Computer name)_diff_b4_s2_v1.tib
Entire PC (Computer name)_diff_b4_s3_v1.tib
Entire PC (Computer name)_diff_b4_s1_v1.tib
Thanks in advance,
DrCarl

When you manually delete files - it breaks the Acronis history on it and the user guide states that manual is not supported. I have found that you can still typically do this with some caveats though...
What happens if you launch the Acronis Application first and attempt to "recover" and select different backup dates? If it can't find them, it should prompt you with a warning message and ask you to locate them manually or ignore them. Once you've ignored them all (the ones you manually deleted), it should then work (assuming you deleted all of the correct versions manually) and give you restore options for the remaining backups that still exist. Don't forget you'll need not only the current differential backup, but also the original full backup that the differentials backup relies upon so hopefully you didn't delete the wrong full either.
The alternative would be to try using the offline bootable recovery media and doing a restore with it. Again, assuming you have all of the necessary TIBS in your backup, it technically "should" work.
Acronis Online User's Manual - Deleting Backups and Backup Versions
"When you want to delete backups and backup versions you no longer need, please do it by using the tools provided by Acronis True Image 2016.
Acronis True Image 2016 stores information on the backups in a metadata information database. Therefore, deleting unneeded backup files in Windows Explorer will not delete information about these backups from the database. This will result in errors when the program tries to perform operations on the backups that no longer exist."
