files and folders backup failure

Thread needs solution

I'm running windows 7, and I'm having trouble backing up my files and folders.  The back starts normally, but then stops without completing the backup.  I tried rebooting, and that didn't improve the result.  I'll repeat the backup and capture the exact wording on the error message later.  Any suggestions?  I'm backing up to an external usb drive.  My drive image backups are working fine.

Please post the error message as without any advice given would be pure speculation.

The message reads " The last backup failed.  We will rerun the backup at 5:25 PM  Error occurred while backing up.  Check for a solution".  The Check for a solution link is not very helpful.

I have attached a screen shot.

I would recommend that you run chkdsk G: /r from an admin command prompt as I suspect corruption on your backup storage drive G:

It's a brand new drive, so I doubt that it is the issue.  I'm running the chkdsk g: /r.  I tried creating a new file and folder backup, and it appeared to be working.  I interrupted it to perform chkdsk.

I have had several drives recently especially large capacity drives brand new out of box with corruption.  It seems that quality control at the manufacturers has gotten iffy lately.

It looks like the chkdsk g: /r is clean.

And now, if you kick off a backup, is it the same message, or does it run?

If it doesn't run, may want to try forcing Acronis to create the backup database again and see if that helps at all...  See the forum post below.  Can't explain why your database would be corrupted if the work-a-round resolves your issue.  That would probably require technical support to look at an Acronis system report generated from your system if you wanted to create and open a case before trying the work-a-round.

I tried the backup of files and folders and it failed with the same error again.  It's wierd.  The backup nearly is complete based on the output file size, then it throws the error and removes the output file.

I'm going to try validating the backup first.  At this point, I don't think that I can get tech support.  I would have to purchase the service or buy a new copy of ATI.  I'll try renaming the data base as you suggested to see if ATI will rebuild it.

Recovery support is free - regardless of purchase date.  You may be covered since the application is preventing the backup from running, hence you cannot recover since there is no functioning backup - worth a shot anyway.

You can also still try 1) removing the database folder and letting Acronis rebuild it and see if that helps, or 2) the usual remove all ATIH from control panel, run the ATIH 2015 cleanup tool (#3 in my signature), rebooting and then reinstalling and starting a new backup job.

First, I'm going to try to clone the backup settings, point it to a new folder, and see if that works.

It looks like creating the new identical backup task worked.  The only thing different is the new task doesn't have an existing backup that is incremented.   By the way, the backup set that was giving me difficulty did pass a validation check.
