I can't get it to work as I want it.

Thread needs solution

Try to delete old and now backup fails. This is the most confusing software I've ever used. Have it for 36 days and have never gottewn it to work without a problem..cransh on start because bacground programs didn't close; failed data stream; failed to locate drive; failed to delete prior weekl etc.

Now I can't get support? This is a waste of $80. I have 2 internal drives: C (SSD) for system and programs only. I for data only and 3 external. I want Image of C on one external  and Alternating back up of I on External J & K. I used to do this with Cobian freeware which is no longer supported . This came highly recommended but does not work. How much do I have to pay someone to help me? Now I have this stupid double icon.

Hello Joseph,

Welcome to these user forums.  Sorry to hear that you are having such problems using ATIH 2016.

I would recommend taking a good look at post 117004: Great Acronis "How-To" videos and other Acronis Resources which has good tutorial videos on the features and usage of this product.

See also the Best Practises Forum where there are lots of worked examples of making backups and using the different backup schemes.  Also see Grover's True Image Guides which is linked in the left column of the Forums.

One comment, if you wanting to use a single backup task to write to two different external drives J & K alternatively, then this will not work because each drive will be seen with a unique drive identifier and you can only specify the one destination backup drive in the task configuration.

To achieve the same end result, you will need to create a separate backup task to write to each different destination drive, i.e. one task for drive J and another for drive K.

Finally, please see 18623: How to get Technical Support: Tips, Tricks and Useful Information which describes the different support options that are open to you to use.

The icon is correct - that's how it looks now.

Assuming the install is OK, as a test, delete all backup tasks/scripts (you can keep the backups if you need/want - just delete the "settings only".

Plug in both of your hard drives - make note of the drive letters... keep in mind that Windows can automatically reassign letters if they are already in use... as a result, you may want to make them Z and Y so they are at the end of the alphabet and not likely to get reassigned unless you have 26 drives letters mounted at the same time.

After that, create  a new backup task and configure exactly how you want and point it to the correct drive.

Now create a second new backup task and configure exactly how you want and point it to the OTHER correct drive.

Let the backups run and see how it goes.

If you contine to get errors after that...

1) Could be a bad install, run the 2015/2016 clean tool, reboot,  download the full v6569 installer from your account and then right click and "run as administrator" to give it the best access to install.  Then recreate your backup tasks and see how they go.

2) You may have a problem with Microsoft VSS on yoiur system.  Most backup software relies on VSS on the local system, however, VSS can have many issues in Windows too.  If you disable VSS, Acronis will use it's own proprietary Snapapi backup method instead.  This may be easier than tryign to troubleshoot and repair VSS.
