I requested an EMAIL message that Backup and Validation was successful - but no message was received

Thread needs solution

Whenever I do a backup of a hard disk using Acronis Trueimage 2016, I request an EMAIL be sent to me that the backup was successful and the files were validated.   I usually run these backups overnight.  Of course, I also want an EMAIL message if it failed.

When you select VALIDATION in the ADVANCED OPTIONS it allows you to send a TEST MESSAGE to make srue you set up the EMAIL NOTIFICATION process correctly.  This TEST MESSAGE was successful - several times.

Anyway, I did a backup last night and was expecting to find an EMAIL saying the backup and validation was successful, but there was no message.

I am wondering if the EMAIL notification failed, but the backup and validation are okay.  It makes me uneasy I did not receive my email message.

Does Acronis Trueimage 2016 save a LOG file or message on the computer that I can open up to see the results of my backup and wheter or not it was validated and everything was fine?

If so, where can I find this LOG file?

Hello, please download a copy of the Log File Viewer app from this forum which you can use to look at the log files for your backup task and see if they were successful or not.

This should also show you a line in the log like below for the email notification status:

message=The e-mail notification has been successfully sent.

I've had the same happen once or twice in the past.

What if you try to create a new test task and configure notifications again with the new task- any luck?

And/OR....

What if you change the default notification to include the task name in the existing notification to force a change that might be necessary to kickstart things again for some weird reason.   I usually add the task name in the subject anyway, so you could append %BACKUP_NAME% to the end, send another test, and then kick off the backup and see how it goes again after that.

%OPERATION_STATUS% - Acronis True Image notification from %COMPUTER_NAME% - %BACKUP_NAME%

Well, in my case, the log file says the email failed. However, Iwhen I test it with the "Send test message" it works fine.

It always worked fine until one of the recent updates to my 2016 version, and then email started failing (but test emails work).

Why is it suddenly broken, and how do I fix something that the test system says is fine?

Hello Jim,

If the log file is saying that the email notification failed but the test message succeeds, then I would suspect that something in the task configuration has been corrupted or similar, probably in the database file(s).

Please try creating a new backup task, even if this is something trivial such as backing up a single folder, and test to see if you get the email notifications working successfully.  If you do, then I would recommend creating a new task in place of the one where the notifications are failing, but ensure that you give this a different name to the failing task name.

Each backup task has two components - an XML file in the Scripts folder, and corresponding information held in the Acronis Database files in the Database folder.  You can open the XML files with Notepad, but there are no user tools to look at the database information (that I am aware of).
