Main window will not open

Thread needs solution

I am running TI2016 build 6571, having updated fairly recently.  A while ago I moved my boot drive for Windows 7 to SSD on a Kingston Predator SHPM2280P2/240.  Then I bought an even faster Samsung 950 Pro 256 Gibyte SSD, intending to move the Kingston SSD to my Linux box.  So I swapped the boot partition to the Samsung SSD, and everything seemed to be working fine.  But when I tried to use the Kingston SSD in the Linux box, I was unable to get it to boot there, so I swapped it back into my Windows 7 box.

It was right after that I started having trouble with TI2016.  It seemed to have messed up its configuration for my weekly backup of the Windows 7 SSD partition, and was trying to backup all the partitions on my D: drive as well, which was never going to work as the D: drive is 2 Tbytes and there is nowhere near enough space on the drive it backs up to for that to fit - I got an error popup.  So I cancelled the backup, and then deleted that backup, both the configuration and the backup files, so I would have enough space again.  Then I created a new backup, this time for the whole of the Kingston SSD, including the 100 Mbyte System Reserved partition.  I clicked the button to run the new backup, and it ran to completion and sent me the notification email.  But later when I was working on the PC, I suddenly got a pop-up window from Acronis saying that I should fill in the details of what I was doing at the time so the pop-up could send it in a report to Acronis.  Since Acronis should not have been actually doing anything at that time, I had no idea what to fill in for that report, so I just attempted to open the main TI2016 window to see what it was doing.  But it would not open.  So I closed the pop-up, and tried again, and it would still not open.  So I rebooted, and tried again, and I still could not get the main window to open.  However, overnight, one of the two normally scheduled backups ran and sent a completed successfully email.  The other backup which should have run before that one did not send any emails, and has not created any new backup files.

I have since rebooted again to install Windows Updates, and still I am unable to get TI2016 to open its main window.  I have tried all the methods I can think of, using its desktop icon, its menu entry in the Start Menu and from its System Tray icon, and none of them seem to do anything.  I just get a "wheelie" twirling for less than a second, and then it stops and nothing else seems to happen.  In the Task Manager, I can see that TrueImage.exe and TrueImageMonitor.exe are running, as I would expect.  I can not find any events in the Event Viewer related to this.

So does anyone have any ideas as to how I can get the main window to open again?  Is there a log file somewhere that would shine some light on what is happening?

Stephen,

You can use the Schedule Manager tool in the link below to gather information on what may be the issue.  You can also remove tasks with the tool that may have become corrupted or non functioning which sounds likely by our discription of behavior.  Any task removed using the tool will need to be added back into the application and reconfigured again after using the tool to remove it.

At times, others that have had issues where the GUI would not launch have been able to try renaming the database folder and letting it recreate automatically.  After that, it normally launches and your backup jobs will be there, but you'll have to pick the source and destination again and run the backup which will result in a full backup again.

If that doesn't work, you can try a repair install by downloading the full installer from your acccount and right clicking and "run as administrator".

If that doesnt' work, then a full uninstall with the cleanup tool and then downloading the installer and running with right click and "run as adminisrator" should clear everything up, but will require all tasks to be recreated from scratch.  Existing backup files will still be usable though and can be added in the GUI, or recovered using the offline bootable media.

I eventually had to use the Cleanup Utility and fully re-install TI2016.  It is extremely aggravating to have to do that and then re-create all my backup tasks.  Software that has been around as long as TI should not still have bugs as bad as this.
