Ownership of restored files

Thread needs solution

I am having "fun" with a new Windows 10 install. I have so far managed to render my personal account unusable twice, but since I have a good Acronis backup of my personal files, that is no problem, right?

Well, no and yes. To get things right, I logged in using a separate Windows administrators account, deleted my personal account and created a new from scratch (create as local acccount to force a reasonable username, then convert to a Microsoft account, and add to the Administrators group).

I logged into my new, fresh account and launched ATI. I got asked by Windows UAC if I wanted to allow ATI to make changes to my PC, which made sense so I said yes. I restored a couple of files to their original location, but unticked the "Recover files with their original security settings". not wanting to have the credentials from my old, now deleted account, associated with the files. The files got restored but when I checked the security settings the owner was set to the Administrators group, not my personal account. Since I ran ATI from my personal account, albeit with escalated (Administrator?) rights, I had expected files to be owned by me after the restore.

Am I expecting too much? Or is this a (known?) shortcoming in ATI? Something caused by Windows 10?

Good question, not sure I have an answer for you but, TI when installed integrates with the admin account used to install the product.  In your creating a new personel account that account may not have permissions associated with TI.  Maybe the link below can be of some help:

Thanks Enchantech. It's late, but that KB article looks interesting. Will have to study it tomorrow.
