RAID 1 and Acronis True Image 2016

Thread needs solution

Hi all

Right now i already setup RAID 1 to my PC alongside with Acronis True Image 2016. My question is does it effect the performance of my PC?

Can someone give the answer.

Thank you.

Well, that depends. With mechanical HDD, there can be a performance degradation with raid 1 (mirror). According to Western Digital, standard HDD are OK for raid 0, but not recommended for raid 1 or raid 5. If you are using SSDs then there should be no problem. I have raid 1 with Western Digital Black and that is noticeably slower, but my raid 5 with 10000 rpm drives was next to instantaneous.

You will notice a delay in startup of your machine no matter if you are using HDD or SSD as the extra time for the storage controller to initialize the array.

Ian is correct that you will see some degradtion in performance if using standard HDD's in the raid 1 set vs. that of SSD's.

Hi IanL-S

Thank you for the answer. How about if i install Acronis True Image, does it effect the RAID 1 operation? Does it effect my performance? Because everytime i shutdown my pc this message will appear. You can refer the message in the attachment.

Thank You.

Best Regards,

Khairul

It should have no impact on performance other than the normal impact on performance when a backup is being made.

What version are you running?  The only time you should see that message with a current version is if an actual backup is in progress when you shutdown.  If a backup is actually running at shutdown, that's a normal message.  If you are running 2016 6581 and it's happening, I would run the installer again (make sure to right click and "run as administrator" - even if logged in as admin already) and do a repair install.  If you have an older version (before 6581, please download and install the latest from your account product downloads).
