Scheduled task not running

Thread needs solution

Hi,

TIH 2016 does not execute scheduled task. I tried the basic steps for this issue on the faq page like uninstalling/reinstalling and running the cleanup utility inbetween. Backup works when launched manually. Would prefer to avoid manually using windows task scheduler. Log of scheduled task is as follow:

As you can see in the log, ATI didn't get an Internet connection to the destination. Are you backing up to the cloud?

Nope, backinp up to an attached USB drive. But I did enable the send email option, which works when I start the backup manually.

When you backup manually, the backup is working fine?

Did you try to schedule the backup a few mn in the future using the scheduler? Does it work?

Yep it works manually. And yes I tried scheduling it in 5 mins, never runs and gives the log above.

1. Under Scheduler/advanced settings, check to make sure the option "run only when idle" is NOT checked.

2. What type settings are you using in the PRE/POST settings option? (error msg=Failed to run child process)

Did you try to set up a new task from scratch?

Yes,I tried to create a new task from scratch before reinstalling and also after.

The strange thing is,I don't have PRE/POST commands set,so I'm not sure why I get the failed child process message. I do have the send email option enabled, which works as it should if I start the backup manually.

I had the run only when pc idle enable at the very first, but it is now disabled since before the reinstall and still no luck.

Screenshots attached.

BTW,I did not mention it but I am running windows 10 on a 5th gen i7 Asus Zenbook laptop. Backing up the 512GB SSD on a 5TB Seagate USB external drive.

Thanks for the help.

When you say you created a new task, just to make sure, you didn't reconfigure an existing backup, right?

Nope, deleted all task (had only this one) and created a new one from scratch, both before uninstall and also did it after.

OK. I was fishing was a reason why ATI would be looking for ealier data that might have been on a network location that was changed, or is not available.

But now it looks like you are setting a brand new taks to a local USB, so there should be no issue with network that would make the scheduling task fail.

One last thing to try is to download the Acronis schedule manager. The KB article will tell you how to LIST and ZAP or DELETE tasks that are suspects, if any.

Link to Schedule Manager:

https://kb.acronis.com/SchedulerManager

Ok thank you, will look into it in the next few days as it's very busy at work.

That worked ! I had a bunch of other obsolete tasks listed in the tool even though I only had one in acronis. I just delted all of them and created a new one with exactly the same parameters, and it worked, scheduled task are now running. Still not sure what really was the issue but it's gone now.

Thank you !

I had this similar issue regarding the scheduled task did not start. I had to manually backup my HD.  I decided to link to Schedule Manager and get the utility program.  I cleaned up all tasks and then I executed "get list" and got one line showing "inst=den start=yes loc task=0-0". What does 'inst=den' mean? Should it show 'inst=yes'?

Thank you for that. I'd spent days trying to get one of two backup jobs to run as scheduled in ATI 2016. (The other one was running as expected.) Turned out the only difference between the two jobs in terms of "advanced options" was the "run only when idle" option. Clearing that checkbox in the balky job fixed the problem.

In my case, my machine doesn't "sleep". Only the display shuts down during idle time. Dunno if that has anything to do with it. I'm running Win 10 HOme v1511 on a reasonably capable custom-build desktop.

A windows 10 install I believe never is idle thus the option checked to only run the backup when machine is idle does not work.
