[SOLVED] Scheduled job starts randomly.

Thread needs solution

ATIH b5518

I encounter a specific bug on one system.

installed ATIH 2016 (no previous ATIH existed anytime)
Planned backup job is set for each day at 5 AM.

The backup job will start on different time than the set one.

Not reproducible on other computers where ATIH 2015 existed with scheduled jobs. Cannot try on a "fresh" system atm.

Hope you can help me. It is vital that the backup does not start "in the middle of the day" as the impact on performance is huge.

Since I made the initial backup manually ATIH 2016 never started a backup at 5 AM.

Use this link to look at what tasks exist. There may be more than you excpect.
Download the schedmgr.exe and start the program.
As illustrated, type the COMMAND below and look at the results comparing to what is in your main menu and your scripts folder.
TASK LIST

1859: Acronis Scheduler Manager
New 1915 scheduler updated
https://kb.acronis.com/content/1859

A couple places to check.
1. Inside the task, look under Schedule at the advanced settings. (Task must be scheduled to see the advanced settings.)
"Run only when idle" should NOT be checkd.
"keep from sleeping" should be checked"
If missed, run job at startup is optional--your choice. I prefer unchecked.

2. Under control panel/power configurarions.
Set power config to balanced or something to that effct.
Getting max performance has been reported as keeping jobs from running.

3. Don't have multiple tasks starting at the same start time.

Karl,

How many hours difference is there between your scheduled time and the time it runs?

Are you using the German language build or English one?

Which timezone from GMT/UTC are you in

I assume your PC clock is correct? I only ask because I have a On-the-Go version of Android and that consistently alters my PC clock on shutdown to US time.

Hi all,
the timezone is GMT +2. Clock is correct. This night Acronis did not run any job. Now that I launched Acronis and Grovers mentioned tool, the backup job started immediately.

I cannot see any job in the Windows Task Planner. Things go very wrong :/. I never had such an issue with planned jobs.

Hi Grover, you found the possible issue. The option "start backup when computer is idle" is set.

This is quite strange. When does ATIH 2016 consider the computer to be idle? I would like to refer to Microsoft planned tasks like defrag etc. that run perfectly using such settings. I don't expect the regarding computer to be not idle at that set time.

Could anyone from Acronis please confirm if this option is bit too picky on the parameters to determine when a computer is "idle". I mean basically anytime a Windows based computer is doing something. ;)

Quite the opposite as pointed out the job started after launching ATIH 2016 UI when the computer was definetely not idle :). This is awkward.

For what its worth, manu users have reported that backups won't run when this item is checked as the computer is neve idle.

Just be sure you check each task that you schedule to make sure this setting is always unchecked.

Thanks Grover, the job ran last night after unchecking this option. I will raise this in a seperate thread.
