TI tries to consolidate non-existent backups on non-existent drives after upgrade from 2014

Thread needs solution

TI 2016 latest build on WIN 7 Pro on Dell 790 I5-2500 CPU with 12 GB RAM 1TB Samsung SSD running in Rapid Mode.

I'm an IT consultant.  I'm having all sorts of problems with backups on my client's machine. I was having problems too when it was running 2014.  I updated it to TI 2016 with the latest build.  I think the problem comes in validation.  I've attached the error message below.  It says  "Failed to exclusively access backup E:\full14\Samsung SSD 850 EVO.... during consolidation.  Make sure the backup file is not opened in other applications."

There is no E drive on the computer any more and there is no consolidation being done.  I'm thinking of just wiping TI2016 off the computer completely and reinstalling it fresh.  I'd rather not but I will if necessary.

Is there any easier fix for this?  Where is Acronis getting the old information on backups?

Thanks,

Al

Hello Alan,

If you have previously modified an existing task and it was originally directed to the phantom E:\ drive, then the Acronis Database will still hold references to that backup location.

Perhaps the simplest method of resolving this issue would be to create a new backup task with a different name - you can either do this from scratch or you can use the option to Clone the settings for the current problem task, making sure that the cloned new task has all the correct configuration settings.

The other approach that you could try would be to rename the C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Database folder (with no Acronis programs active) then allow Acronis to rebuild the database files when it is next started.

The error "Failed to exclusively access backup E:\full14\Samsung SSD 850 EVO.... during consolidation.  Make sure the backup file is not opened in other applications."  indicates that the app believes that the backup named in the error has not completed the last task initiated by the app for that task.

Therefore, I agree with the last suggestion of Steve to rename the database folder and allow the app to rebuild that database.  Should clear up the issue for you.

I resolved it by doing a complete uninstall and then clean reinstall of 2016.

Thanks,

Al

Thanks for the feedback Al, glad the issue is resolved.
