2017 Acronis settings

Thread needs solution

Finally, 2017 gives some support for SSD NVMe by creating rescue disk (Windows PE, no Linux).

What bothers me and frankly drives me crazy, is not too user friendly GUI and lack of some features that were available in earlier versions, or behavior that completely does not make any sense.

It is like washing machine designed by somebody who never washed any clothes.

Well, how to turn scanning for backup on start?
True image 2017 scans for backups during a start, happily adding all files with certain .vhd extension that happens to be a Vbox virtual disk file, not a Windows backup also in the format of the virtual drive. There is no visible way I can turn it off or designate what extension to scan for if any.

How do I set backup start delay?
Another annoying thing is creation of the new backup. If I do not want to schedule it and I do not want to “Back up now” I have no way (at least I do not see it), to start backup with some, possibly configurable, delay. Once button with a drop box is dismissed after new backup creation or when selecting existing backup, there is no way to get it back or set delay using other means.

There are other things, like coordinated of main (and only) window is skewed relatively to Windows coordinates. Besides Acronis is a Qt product hence nothing inside a main window is a window. Maybe that is why it does not adhere to Windows GUI design standards.

John, support for NVMe SSD drives was added to both ATIH 2017 and the later builds of 2016 some months ago, though this depends on the exact type of drive involved, so some may still need to use Windows PE Rescue Media and add in extra drivers.  This latter activity is now very much easier with the provision of the new MVP script tool - see post: 127281: MVP Tool - CUSTOM ATI WINPE BUILDER - this makes for a more flexible rescue media build.

For the scanning / adding of your .VHD files, I can only suggest raising a support case for this directly with Acronis, you have support now for upto 2 years so please use it and get these types of concerns in front of the Acronis developers.

Your screen shot of the Backup button drop-down options answers your point about creating a new task but not either backing up immediately or by schedule - just click on Backup Later and then run the task as and when you want.

Again for the windows GUI design - sorry but this is a user forum and we are users the same as yourself, so either raise a support case or use the in application Feedback tool to raise your concerns for this area of the product.
