Backup failing after loading 9.00 gb and then hangs

Thread needs solution

Have tried twice with newly installed True Image 2017 (no previous version on this PC) running on Windows 7. The failure messgae was "Failed to create volume snapshot" but chkdsk revealed no errors.

Created log report and the following error appears quite a lot:

ICommandText::Execute
      0x80040e14
      SQLSTATE: 42000, Native Error: 3013 Error state: 1, Severity: 16 Source: Microsoft SQL Server Native Client 10.0 Error message: BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally. SQLSTATE: 42000, Native Error: 3271 Error state: 1, Severity: 16 Source: Microsoft SQL Server Native Client 10.0 Error message: A nonrecoverable I/O error occurred on file "{51CB3F72-D1FC-4DB3-B6A8-939C447E6E7B}7:" 995(failed to retrieve text for this error.  Can anyone help.

Richard, welcome to these user forums.

Failed to create volume snapshot errors come from problems with the Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service VSS which Acronis uses under the covers to create snapshot data for the source chosen for the backup.

I would suggest defaulting to using the older Acronis proprietary snapshot method for this particular backup to ensure that it does backup successfully.

See post: https://forum.acronis.com/forum/45832#comment-346558 for details on how to do this.

See webpage: VSS Error Troubleshooting Guide Part 1 of 3 for help on looking into VSS issues.

Steve,

Many thanks for your quick response. Delighted to say your suggestion worked first time.

Thabk you for your help.

Kind regards,

Richard

Richard, thanks for the feedback and glad to hear the suggestion worked for you, but please understand that MS VSS is used by other functions on your Windows system besides by ATIH - if you have Windows System Protection enabled to create restore points, then that uses VSS, as does Windows Backup etc.

The suggestion will only resolve this issue for ATIH.
