Bootable Media Crash

Thread needs solution

Hi all

Today I tried to create a backup of the system SSD using the normal linux based bootable media and acronis true image crashed every time when I selected the disk to be backed up. This happened using the UEFI boot mode. With MBR boot mode, the bootable media would not boot at all.

System config is as follows:

ASUS P9D WS motherboard, Xenon E3 1265L V3 Processor
1 system SSD
1 DATA1 HD
4 HD in a Windows striped Volume as DATA2

Could the issue have to do with the presence of the Windows striped array?

Thanks for any feedback

Rudolf, welcome to these User Forums.

I would suspect that you will need to create the Windows PE version of the Acronis Rescue media instead of using the Linux version.

Are you running a Windows Server OS on this system?  Again I would suspect that you may be given the Xenon processor and RAID array in your specifications.

RAID devices are not supported in the standard, Linux Rescue Media, and you would need to inject additional device drives for this to be supported in the WinPE version, but you can use the MVP Custom ATI WinPE builder tool which automates the process of injecting drivers.  See the Useful Links > MVP User Tools and Tutorials on the forum page, or else see the Community Tools link in my signature.

Thanks, Steve

I'm running Windows 10 on the Workstation, so that should not be an issue. In the past I have been able to create backups of another Windows Server 2012R2 machine without any issues, so I don't really believe the OS is the reason.

The Windows Sriped Volume on the four HDs does not come into play at all during the backup process, it just sits there on the sidelines. I boot from the bootable ATH2017 media, backup the Win10 SSD and the target is the single DATA HD. The Striped Volume is not touched.

I am a bit surprised that ATH is so totally thrown off by the presence of a Striped Volume.

I will try using a WinPE based bootable media.
