Build 8053 Backups Problem

Thread needs solution

Just updated to Build 8053 and all my existing backups have disappeared from the Backup pane. Tried to add existing backups and, although they were selectable using 'Add Backup', nothing actually happened and the files were not shown in the Backup pane. Re-booting TI 8053 and the PC had no effect. I uninstalled the build and re-installed it. I was then able to add the existing backups. However, these all needed to be reconfigured and all drives, exceptions etc had to be re-entered!. Looking at the Acronis>scripts folder in C:\program Data, all the old backup configuration files have now disappeared. Hence, all backups have now to be re-created. That is NOT acceptable as I have fairly complex backups!

Andrew, welcome to these user forums.

I have upgraded two of my systems to ATIH 2017 build 8053 so far, one with Windows 7, the second with Windows 10, and both went smoothly with no issues of backup tasks being lost.  The Windows 7 system required a reboot after the upgrade, the Windows 10 system didn't.

If you have a previous backup of the OS that includes C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts folder, then you could restore the contents of that folder back and this will repopulate the Scripts folder with the XML configuration files for your missing tasks.  You will still need to reconfigure any backup schedules for the tasks.

Thanks Steve, although I have been here for many years! Anyway, the update worked correctly on a 2nd PC but I still can't get it to work properly on my 1st PC. I have uninstalled and re-installed several times, deleted old backups etc etc. However, backups are still failing with multiple incremental backups designated _V1, V2, V3 etc. I have deleted, created and reconfigured the backups many times with a single, not incremental, option but no matter what I do TI insists on creating a large number of incremental backups and then failing.

Andrew, I would recommend trying a clean install of the ATIH build 8053 installer, assuming you have not already tried this on the problem PC.

Uninstall normally via the Control panel, then download the Acronis Cleanup tool (link below in my signature).  Run the cleanup tool as Administrator followed by doing a restart of the computer.

Finally reinstall the build 8053 installer and create a new backup task to check whether the issue is resolved or not.

If you are still seeing problems, then please download and use the MVP Log Viewer tool to look at the backup task logs to see what messages are being given there for this issue.

P.S sorry that I didn't pickup that your profile had been in the forums since December 2015, welcome back anyway and hope we can help you resolve this issue.

Thanks Steve. After much uninstalling/re-installing and changing my external backup disk's usb connection, things seem to be back to normal. It looks as though a flaky backup disk connection may have been the cause of the problem. In thise circumstances, it looks as though multiple backups: V1, V2, V3 etc are generated - many are zero bytes. These look like incremental backups which is somewhat misleading. Anyway, all ok so far. Thanks for your responses.

Andrew, thanks for the update.  Bad connections to the backup drive can be an issue and will cause backups to fail (aka cancelled by the user!) as Acronis doesn't know whether the failure is hardware or caused by the user pulling the plug etc.  The main thing is that you have found the problem and it is looking better!

I have the same problem as andrew. But I have uninstalled the build 8053 and installed the build 8041 for it. With this build everything works again. I am unsure if I should update again on build 8053
Best regards

Rainer, the latest build for ATIH 2017 is now #8058 so may be worth giving that a try to check if all is looking OK for you.  I would recommend downloading the latest full installer from your Acronis Account and installing that (as Administrator) over the top of your existing software rather than using the in-app upgrade option.

If you are concerned, then make a backup of your Windows OS partition before doing the above so that you can quickly restore it back to get back to how your are today.

Steve, thank you for the message. I have installed the build 8058 and everything has worked correctly.

Best regards

Rainer, thanks for the feedback, glad to hear that #8058 is working fine for you.
