Can't Stop Operation

Running ATIH 2017 Build 8029 on Win 7 Pro sp1
My backup drive started to show bad blocks in Event Viewer so I bought a new drive and copied over the contents of the backup folder to the new drive.
The first attempt at a full disk backup failed. Log File Viewer 2.2 says that the log is corrupted, so I can't read it.
I decided to try to create a new backup task instead of continuing to attempt to use the old task. However, everytime I start ATIH, the old task starts "calculating time remaining" and I can't stop it. I click the "Stop" button, respond "Yes" to the "Are you sure" box, but the task continues to run.
What now?
By the way, I attempted to download and use both the "MVP Log viewer 1.20" and it crashes whenever I try to browse to the location where the logs are.

Pete, when you swapped the old HDD backup drive with the bad blocks and replaced this with a new backup drive, then this changed the UUID for the drive that is stored in the Acronis Database for the backup task, so this no longer matched the information held for the task.
Acronis doesn't like any drives being changed for a backup task unless you edit the task and reselect the new drive even if this has the same drive letter.
Creating a new backup task will work just as well as you found out.
The new MVP Log Viewer is required to read the logs in any of the ATIH 2017 versions (New Generation or Standard) as Acronis decided to change the log file folders and format in this new version! If you do have problems with running the Log Viewer, then please post in the topic for this or send a PM to the tool author, FtrPilot with more information so that he can investigate why it fails for you.

Thanks for the quick response. A few more related questions:
I'm using ATIH 2017 Standard build 8029
1. At the moment, the "old backup files" consist of a full backup plus 5 incremental parts and then a second (newer) full backup. For some reason, Acronis doesn't even detect these files, although it detects a lot of other old backup files scattered around my system. Is there any way to point Acronis to the folder where these old backup files are located? I'm pretty sure that I can access these backup files if I boot from the Acronis Rescue Disk, so I'll probably keep them for a while, but it would be nice to have access to them through the regular GUI.
2. Where are the new log files saved? After I rebooted, whatever was giving the new MVP Log Viewer problems seemed to go away, but I can't find any log file for the backup that I just ran. Both the new MVP Log Viewer v 1.20 and an older version (Log Viewer 2.2) find and view a bunch of logs from a month ago and earlier (e.g., created by Acronis version=20.0; build=5554), for example D:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Logs\service_2017-02-22-04-00-02.log but I can't find anything newer. I even did a search for files created around the time that the new backup job ran.
Is there some setting that needs to be made to create log files?

Pete, you shouldn't need to have your old backup files show in the main ATIH GUI if you just want to browse them at times, just double-click on any of them in Windows Explorer to open them like any normal drive or folder, else right-click and take the TrueImage option to Mount as a drive letter. So no need to boot from a Rescue Disk to access them either.
Download the latest MVP Log Viewer version 1.24 which should fix any issues you may have. The log files are still in the C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\ root folder but with ATIH 2017 build 6116 or 8029 the logs are now in deeper sub-folders such as \Logs\ti-demon\ for the backup task logs but these no longer use the name service_ anymore! The log viewer will show the file path in the top window. See screen shot attached.

Steve,
Thanks for the tip on viewing old backup files.
The download link for the MVP Log Viewer in the pinned thread from FtrPilot is for v 1.20 and I can't find v 1.24.
I was having some difficulty getting v 1.20 to recognize files in \Logs\ti-demon\ (got warning that the folder "Does Not Contain Any ATI Log Files"), until I changed the "Program Launch Mode" from "Automatic" (which was setting "Legacy mode") to forcing "New Generation Mode".
Once I did this, I was finally able to view the log files.
The March 21 post (#19) from FtrPilot at the end of the pinned thread says that v 1.3 will be released later this week, so I'll come back towards the end of the week and try that.
Thanks for your help.

Pete, sorry - you are correct about the version of the Log Viewer in the public forums. I had forgotten that I had my later version from the private MVP forum where we have been doing testing for changes being introduced in the new version. Hopefully Randy (FtrPilot) will release the 1.3 version very soon.
