Delete old backups

Thread needs solution

How to I delete old Acronis bacups that are filling my backup disk, autoclean setup did not work. Can I use File Explorer to delete old files.

Is it possible to see Acronis backup files through Acronis user interface and perhaps choose there to manual delete files.

I have Windows 10 pro, 64bit and Acronis True Image 2017.

Gretar, welcome to these user forums.

If your backups screen shot shows all of your backup files then this doesn't meet the criteria you show in your scheme image which is to store no more than 5 recent version chains, i.e. b1 to b5 then delete b1 after the b6 full backup is created successfully.

If you do not have sufficient space on your backup drive to hold up to 6 full backups and 5 sets of incremental backups, then you should reduce the number to store, i.e. store no more than 2 or 3 chains.

If you decide to manually delete backup chains from your backup drive, then you will also need to run a Validation for your backup task that created the files you delete, then take the Ignore option for each missing file.

The alternative method is to use the 'Clone settings' option for the backup task which will create a duplicate of the task with the same name but prefixed by (1).  Do not run the new cloned task yet.  First remove the settings for the old task, then you can delete any of the unwanted files you want via Explorer.  You can then rename the cloned task and then start the task again, but I would recommend using a new destination folder to give the task a clean start with your ammended settings.

Hi Steve

Thanks for you answer, it is correct that the backup files do not match the criteria because I did change it recently. I think I will manually delete backup chains and run a validation. Hope all will work in the future with this new criteria after my cleanup.

Thanks for your help.

Acronis True Image 2018 here. Deleted oldest backup files because I ran out of disk space, ran validator, it says to ignore the message if I deleted, but no such option, just retry, cancel, browse or X -- nothing works to make catalog in sync. Any othert suggestions?

Paulius, welcome to these User Forums.

If the Cancel option for validation does not function as Ignore, then please see below for the other recommendation I gave to the earlier poster:

Another alternative, if you are prepared to wait a while longer is to install ATI 2019 when it becomes generally available for purchase or upgrade, as this will introduce a new Backup Cleanup tool to help with this type of issue.  ATI 2019 is currently undergoing Beta testing.
