Does backup of active bootable partition save bootcode too?

Thread needs solution

Assume I have an active bootable partition which contains Windows 7 on a MBR formatted hard disk.

When the computer is booted the windows 7 on this partition is started.

Now when I backup exactly this partition by clicking the checkbox in TI section backup-->partitions does this backup save the bootcode / MBR as well?

In other words if I restore later this partition: Will it be bootable afterwards (again)?

Peter, if you select your Windows 7 OS disk drive at the disk level, this by definition will select all other partitions for that drive and will also include the MBR and Track 0 information along with the disk signature.

When you restore the same full disk backup again, you will be offered the same choice, i.e. to select the whole disk by the top option shown, or to select the individual partitions where there is also a separate option to restore the MBR and Track 0 data, plus a separate tick box to recover the disk signature for the drive (used by some applications for activation purposes).

The key with MBR Windows7 installations is to ensure that you include the Microsoft System Reserved (MSR) partition where Windows stores the Boot Configuration Data (BCD).

For UEFI Windows installations, the MSR is supplanted by a separate EFI partition holding the BCD store data.
