How Does ATI 2017 Upgrade Work

Thread needs solution

I currently use ATI 2016 on two computers. I am interested in their 'Cyber Monday' sale, where I can upgrade 3 computers to ATI 2017.

How exactly is this upgrade process going to work, especially on my third computer where ATI is not currently installed?

Thanks in advance..........

Durago, if you purchase an Upgrade license for 3 computers, then you are still getting the full ATIH 2017 product - the only requirement that an upgrade imposes is that you need to provide 2 license serial numbers when installing the software, one for the new 2017 product, and one for your qualifying previous product, i.e. the 2016 serial in your case.  There should be no issue with upgrading from your 2 computer license to a 3 computer license as far as I am aware, but if you are concerned, then raise a ticket with Acronis support as a presales question and they should be able to give you a definitive answer.

P.S. make sure you know which product type you are getting, i.e. Perpetual - buy once use forever, or Subscription - buy now, renew every 1 or 2 years else all major function stops working!

I have never had an issue with uprgading from an licence for x systems to one for x + a systems. I updated from a 3 licence ATI 2016 to a 5 licence 2017 without issue.

Steve, I took your advice and raised a ticket with Acronis support as a presales question. I got my answer(s) after a 45-min chat and a 2-page downloaded email with instructions & links. Luckily I got a knowledgeable Acronis engineer, but IMHO Acronis makes a purchase and an update more complicated than it needs to be. And for some nonsensical reason, I only have 14 days to update my 3rd computer that is currently not running ATI 2016. I'm not sure I understand why this is, since I paid good money for a 3-PC license. Oh well......

I am currently updating to ATIH 2017 on my primary computer....update completed, now time to do a restart. Fingers crossed that I followed ALL the instructions correctly, lol.

Strange..!  never heard of any 14 day restriction on installing any Acronis software, upgrade or otherwise!  We have had users coming to the forums who have had spare licenses from years previously and still been able to use them, so does make you wonder whether this a touch of guesswork by the person you chatted with?

Steve, here is the instruct from Acronis engineer regarding my 3rd computer; I purposely omitted the link and serial keys. Maybe I am interpreting things wrong in regard to the 14 days.

Here are the steps to Acronis True Image 2017 on 3rd machine:

1) Download exe file from the link:  ZZZ

The shared link is valid for 14 days with unlimited downloads.

2) Install the exe file downloaded.

3) Enter Acronis True Image 2017 serial key : XXX

4) Enter Acronis True Image 2016 serial key: YYY

This will activate Acronis True Image 2017 product.

Durago, thanks for the further information which clarifies that the 14 days applies only to the shared download link.  So in essence, providing you download the software installer and have valid serial keys then you can install this at any time you wish.

OK, that makes sense. I didn't realize that the 14-day limit applied to the installer, which I have now downloaded to my other two computers and will soon do for my 3rd computer.

But would you believe that I just got a no-reply email from Acronis stating that I had just started my 30-day free trial? I don't think so, as I paid them $35.99 for a 3-PC license. Again, I don't know why they make purchases and updates so complicated. You wouldn't believe the problems I encountered back in April '16 when I purchased the 'buy one, get one free' license for ATIH 2016.

Anyway, thanks for your response and clarification.

Once you have registered your new ATIH 2017 serial to your Acronis account, you won't need the download link any more as you can always download the latest build from your account when needed again.

Registering the serial should also stop the 'welcome to the trial' type emails, I would hope - suspect that there is a disconnect in the system somewhere between purchasing, installing and registering the licenses.

Steve, I didn't have to register the serial number....that was taken care of via the update process. But just to make sure, I went to my Acronis account, and sure enough there was my 3-PC serial number. While at my account, I noticied that I had a 30-day free trial of Acronis Cloud Storage, which I don't want and never asked for. The recently-received no-reply email about my trial period made no mention of Cloud Storage.....it made it sound like my 30-day free trial was for ATIH 2017.

BTW, I just successfully updated my 2nd computer from ATIH 2016  to ATIH 2017.....again the process went smoothly.

You mentioned that "Once you have registered your new ATIH 2017 serial to your Acronis account, you won't need the download link any more as you can always download the latest build from your account when needed again." But I don't understand how I get to my Acronis account on my 3rd PC that doesn't contain any version of ATIH. Am I missing something here?

When you install ATI 2017 on the third computer you will be asked to log into you account thge first time you open ATI  2017. It will then automatically activate the installation.

Ian

OK, Ian. I think I now understand the process. Thanks!

All you need to do is to sign in to your Acronis Account on the main webpage at http://www.acronis.com/ then look for the listing of your products where you will find download links to the latest build versions available for the installer, bootable rescue media ISO, and any other extras that may be available.

FYI, the installers are always available online from Acronis as well and don't need to be obtained from your online account or the 14-day cleverbridge download link.  They are the web installers so they will download a small file, connect to the web and download the main one.  The full version is avaialble directly from your account when logged in and the product is already registered. The web version from the product updates, should work fine though.
