I cannot see my backup files in Windows Explorer

Thread needs solution

I am a first time user so I might be doing something wrong. I backed off an external hard drive to WD 18TB drive and during the backup I could see that it was creating the backup file on the drive, but now that the backup is done nothing shows up. I know that the backup is there since in the drive properties I can see that it takes up space. I have show Hidden files enabled. Using win 11

Hello!

Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Check File Explorer Settings:

Ensure that you have configured File Explorer to show hidden files. In File Explorer, go to the "View" tab, and check the "Hidden items" checkbox.

Search for Backup Files:

Use the Windows search feature to look for the backup file on your WD 18TB drive. Sometimes, the file may not appear in the expected location.

Confirm Backup Location:

Double-check the destination folder on your WD 18TB drive where the backup was supposed to be saved. Confirm that it matches the intended location.

View Hidden Files in Command Prompt:

Open Command Prompt, navigate to the backup drive, and use the dir /a command to list all files, including hidden ones. This can help verify the presence of the backup file.

File System Issues:

Check the file system of the WD 18TB drive for any errors. You can do this by right-clicking the drive in File Explorer, selecting "Properties," going to the "Tools" tab, and clicking "Check" under the Error-checking section.

Reconnect the External Drive:

If you disconnected the WD 18TB drive during the backup process, reconnect it to the computer and check if the backup file becomes visible.

Make sure your Antivirus isn't blocking the process: Link to Acronis Knowledge Base
