Need answer ASAP

Thread needs solution

I began my recovery of my of my old HDD onto my new HDD. But I forgot to leave the original disconnected. When the recovery is finished, and I close Acronis, I think the computer will try to boot through the HDD. Is it OK to hold the power button down until it shuts down before it tries to boot, if the recovery is deemed successful? Edit: I still have the option to shut down the computer when the operation is completed.

Did you boot from the ATI Rescue Media, or are you recovering via the Windows application of ATI? If the system does try to reboot, when it shuts down, but before the boot process begins, if you catch it then you could safely use the power button.

P.S. This is primarily a user-to-user forum, so while you can ask for help "ASAP", on a holiday it may not happen.

I understand that. Thank you very much for the input. It's appreciated.

OK. About half way through recovery, it said it failed, but did not give any other info. Do I need to make another backup, or just try with this one again?

Where is the .tib backup located? (Where are you restoring from?)

It's on a Seagate backup plus external hard drive. I am now running the recovery for the third time. It failed twice, at different times in the recovery. This time it has gone further than any before, and still running. Maybe I'll get lucky.

Don't connect the external drive via a hub, a port in a monitor, or a USB extension cord, etc. Connect the external drive directly to a USB port on the rear of the computer case.

And, if you have a desktop, connect it to the back USB ports and not the front.  USB hard drives can be finicky with power.  Front ports have less power output.  Hubs (even powered ones) can be flakey.  So can "extenders" when trying to increase the length of a USB cable.  I've seen plenty of people buy a USB 3.0 hard drive, plug it into the correct USB 3.0 port, but stick a USB 2.0 extender in the middle which will drop the speeds down to 2.0.  Based on things disconnecting at random times, it does sound like the external drive is dropping power during the long read/write session.  Hopefully, if you're using a back usb port, a good cable and directly connected without any usb hubs, it will make it all the way through.
