Need independant Acronis-Backups for the same drive on different media - how can I do this?

Thread needs solution

Problem: Acronis 2017 doesen't start a new and independant Filechain, the full backup is ok, but when I have a full backup on 2 seprtate external discs, the incremental files start a mix and so the backups became faulty. Acronis doesn't realize, that there are 2 different backups. It is the same on Acronis 2013, even when the filenames and storage folders are completly different.

Who knowes how to solve the problem?

I'm not sure of how you set them up, but you should have a different backup task for each hard drive and they should have unique (different names). Use something like _A and _B at the end if you want to keep them similar though.

Also, when you set up the backup to each external drive, make sure they have a unique drive letter in Windows - preferably a little down the alphabet so Windows  doesn't automatically change them at some point in time which has caused issues (that should no longer be an issue with the current version of 2017, but it's a habit I still use).

2015 and newer are different beasts than 2014 and earlier.  It is supposed to be "easier" (more user friendly) but that's up for debate in some of the implementation and opinion varies from user to user.

Thank you for your fast answer. In TI 2013 I hat 2 completly different names an the target drives had differend letters, but a new Backup with unique Name was (false) recognized as an old one (could be seen as in the display it was counted as if there where alredy 130 old versions).

In 2017: I can't give myself a name to the acronis files, I see furthermore no possibility to store the files in an folder of my choice. Bizarre, everything is done automatically.

Artemis, the backup file names in ATIH 2017 (& 2015, 2016) are taken from the task name, so providing you give your tasks a unique name each time, there should be no problem.  The key to setting task names is to do this before you run the task for the first time, as after then the file name will not be changed regardless of changing the task name.

As Rob has already advised, you should always have a separate task for each different backup drive being used - Acronis does not play well if you start swapping backup drives for a single task - this is because the UUID for the physical backup drive is stored in the Acronis Database records for the task, and the new drive's UUID then doesn't match what is stored.  Ideally, your different drives should also have unique drive letters taken from further down the alphabet so that the same letter is not reused when you plug in other devices such as USB sticks.

You should be able to put your backup in any folder or location as well.  That's the first option when pick the destination in the backup job.  The destination needs to be able to fit a backup on it though or might not be available.  Check out some user videos that show some of the features and settings.  They're from 2016, but nearly identical in 2017.
