Problem when cloning an SSD Drive

Thread needs solution

Hello,

A friend of mine used Acronis True Image 2014 to clone an SSD drive with Windows 7 on it to another SSD drive. Both of the drives were the same hardware - a 128 GB that he bought them both together.  The cloning succeeded but when he tried to start his computer - BOTH of them didn't start with the error: "BootMGR is missing".
From searching the internet he realised that the acronis had problems dealing with SSD drives.

I want to know if that is really true?

If I use Acronis True Image 2017, will I be able to clone or make images of SSD drives without any problems?

Thank you

David, welcome to these user forums.

The first clue to this problem is your statement that BOTH SSD drives wouldn't start - which suggests that your friend has cloned from the one SSD to the second SSD and then tried to boot into Windows with both drives connected - this is a definite NOT recommended as the purpose of cloning is to duplicate everything from the source to the target drive, and this includes the drive signature.  Booting like this can cause both drives to be corrupted in a worse case scenario and will confuse Windows which will see duplicate drive signatures etc.
