Rescue Media Builder Failure
Hi,
I am trying to create a bootable USB stick using Acronis True Image 2017. I choose the WINPE based option with Acronis plugin, downoaded the Kit and tried to create the stick, but when it comes to "Saving WIM file", it fails with an unspecified error (Failed to create bootable media - Failed to copy the product files). It just takes me to this page: https://kb.acronis.com/errorcode/bookmark/0x00180023/7931/1523570281/6B…
I cannot contact Acronis (expired support), so IÄm hoping someone here can help. I just went through a lengthy recovery of a failed system and don't want to have to go through that again so I'm trying to prepare for the worst.
I am using a brand new SanDisk stick with 64GB
Thanks

Ian is mostly correct. The size limit is 32GB. 64GB is definitely not going to work. See https://forum.acronis.com/forum/acronis-true-image-2017-forum/ti-2017-f….

Thomas, thanks for the clarification ... I could not remember if it was 16 or 32. As I have 8gig USB sticks that I use for recovery media I did not put a high priority on remembering the details!

Hi,
So I got myself a 16 GB stick and it still gives me the same error message. Any ideas what's going on here?
Thanks

OK, so even though Acronis gives you the option to format for you, this was the issue. I formatted the stick myself as FAT32 and now it worked.

FAT32 format is required for the USB stick to be bootable, any other format will not work.

Glad that you sorted it out. Formatting of USB sticks can be problematic.
