[RESOLVED by Reinstall] Acronis 2017 - Restore of files from a backup after restore of Acronis 2017 without boot CD

Thread needs solution

Dear Acronis Fans,

I am using Acronis for a while now without any issues ... I was having trouble with my computer and needed to reinstall Acronis, now it's working fully again. Just to mention it: I have purchased the product.

Now with the new install, the old backup 'plans' are somehow gone. Still fine and logical to me. Side question: How to ensure that next time this does not happen ? Can you export settings ?

Now my actual question: I have an incremental backup prior to reinstall on my NAS (*.tib files). I aim to restore individual files from this w/o having to boot with Acronis, i.e. best within Explorer. How to do this ?

I spent quite some time meanwhile to search (including google) and all I found did not help.

I tried to double click in Explorer on one of the TIB files, but the system did not include the image in Explorer (as described somewhere in another forum). Explorer shows the TIBs accociated to Acronis and the default App is Explorer.

So before I describe in length what I did so far, hoping that I did not oversee a proper description here, could someone please provide me a hint or link on my above ?

Thank you in advance.

Best regards

   Christian

Christian, welcome to these user forums.

There is no method for exporting or importing your backup tasks provided by Acronis directly.

You can however save a copy of the C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\ Scripts and also the Database folders.  The Scripts folder holds your backup task XML configuration files (.tib.tis) whereas the Database folder holds the backup history information (and more besides) for your tasks.

Note: you can only restore the Database folder files after first stopping all Acronis Services and ending all Acronis Programs as otherwise there will be locks on the files in this folder.

Your incremental backup files on your NAS should be able to be opened by double clicking on any of these in Windows Explorer provided you have access to the complete backup version chain, i.e. the initial Full backup and all associated Incremental files.  If the backup was made for Disks & Partitions, you can also try taking the option in Explorer to Mount the backup as a drive letter.

I do have access to the entire incremental backup, but double clicking does not open any restore option.
Is there anything I should flag along creating the backup to be able to do so ?

FYI: The backup is PW protected.

Just to state the obvious: The TIBs are all on my local NAS, having 2GB each. NAS works perfect with anything else. But I just thought to mention ... before writing here, rebooted everthing including all network components.

Can I try to open any of the TIB files with a specific program instead as the double click does not work ?

Mount the backup:
Right click does not provide me an option to mount the image as Win10 does along other images. Anything other I should try to mount instead ?

I found info that Win10 has restrictions on mounting from remote media:
".ISO and . IMG files cannot be mounted from removable media that isn't formatted with NTFS or ReFS file system."

The NAS has a proprietary file format (QNAP Raid 1 NAS with latest QNAP OS).

Shall I deinstall and install Acronis again ? Repair option is not provided in Program manager.

Thank you and regards

Christian, when you double-click on a .TIB file, then you should see something similar to the images below, or when you right-click on one, see the options to Mount or Validate.  If you don't then a Repair install may help.  To do the Repair, simply reinstall ATIH again over the top of what is already there and the option to Repair will be shown.

Christian,

If possible copy the backup files (all of them) to another disk attached to your machine internally or via USB connection and attempt to access them via Explorer from there.  Should work.

I tried to. Only deinstall is shown.
May I kindly ask you for a link to download ? Is there any FTP Server etc. ? Online I find "AcronisTrueImage2017_web.exe". I purchased the program in a box including licence key, with the box+cd thrown away as I only intended to use the key. So I do aim to get the latest and best and if possible in German.

Well, aside of that I don't have a 400GB USB disc, this would be one of my last options as being time consuming. My NAS automatically can mirror to Cloud etc. and I would like to stay with my NAS. To copy TIBs to a NAS everytime I need to do a single file restore ... ;-)

@Steve:
Do you have TIBs on a USB drive or also on a NAS with proprietary format ? Do you have your TIBs also split in 2GB portions ?

Any other mount programs that I could use instead ?

Christian, if you have registered your ATIH 2017 license key to your Acronis user account, then you should be able to download the full installer from your account downloads page.

I have .TIBs on local, USB and NAS drives but am currently away from home so cannot test opening the files on the NAS by double-clicking on them.

There are no other mount programs that you can use for .TIB files - the format is unique to Acronis only.

RESOLVED by reinstall

Dear all,

please allow me to first say MANY thanx. Entire reinstall AND Clean Tool on top helped.

ALL working now, including double click and even mount as described by Steve.
Works like a charm. It does feel also much faster now... e.g. along start etc.

@Steve: What a silly question by me, did not think of the most obvious DL... Acronis has a service level that I did not expect ;-)

Sorry, that I did not try that on my own first before posting here. But maybe it has a good side too: Others reading this might be able to get quicker to their goal when having a similar issue.

Thank you again and a good Sunday to ya all.

Cheers

Christian, glad to hear all is working again - thanks for giving the feedback.
