Restore to dissamuler hardware

Thread needs solution

Hi

I currently have a 250gb ssd hard drive.

I want to replace the HardDrive with a 1TB harddrive from a diferent manufactor.

My question is will the rescue builder restore  my os drive or do I need the universal Restore.

You don't need to use the "restore to dissimilar hardware" functionality. This functionaly only applies when you have a change in the motherboard or disk controller, typically the case when you restore to another computer.

If for the same computer, changing the disk doesn't require dissimilar hardware in the cast majority of the cases. Some changes in SATA settings (RAID to non-RAID, etc) might trigger the need to the functionality. Windows 10 is very resilient though, so you can always try without Universal Restore.

Thank you Pat

The Restore was a sucess.

The only Issue is that the original drive was 222GB and after restoring it onto a 1TB dr the main boot partion is still 222GB and i'm left with aprox 700GB of unlocated space.

Now I can make the unlocated space into a partion but before I do that I would like to increase the volume on boot dr.

Is it possible to  do that with either the acronis disk director or  with win 10 disk manager?

Thanks

JRCharlie, the easiest method of changing the partition sizes would be to use one of the various free Partition Manager type programs that are available - see the MiniTool Partition Wizard which is fully capable of doing this.  The alternative would have been to have allowed Acronis to automatically resize the partitions when doing the restore.

Thanks Steve

I sure don't recal acronis asking if I wanted to resize the partions.

Any way the Minitool did the Job just like you said it would.

Glad to hear that MiniTool PW did the resize job as needed. Thanks for the feedback.
