restore .tibx file to smartphone

Thread needs solution

A database file containing my passwords has corrupted on the smartphone. I have a backup of the smartphone on my desktop, a few months old which has a .tibx extension. The backup was created with the Acronis app and True Image 2017. How can I restore this backup, either extracting the database I need or even the whole backup as I have access to a second phone exactly as the one used to backup. The .tibx file is not recognized by TI when right clicking to open. Thanks

To recover your Acronis mobile backup, you need to use the Acronis Mobile app on your phone which provides an option for 'Access and Recovery' which when you select this, will show you a list of available backups to choose from.

Once you select the backup from your phone, you should then be able to drill down and select the particular backup data that you want to recover.

Steve, thank you for the reply.  However, when I start the app on the phone it says no backups yet. Further, if I select add backup and the computer (for a hypothetical new backup) it gives an error Expected BEGIN_ARRAY but was BEGIN_OBJECT at path $(0).last backup....

Please see KB 59581: Acronis True Image: troubleshooting mobile backup and try the steps suggested in that document, including reinstalling the Mobile app on the phone and re-linking this to your computer.  Note: the KB document doesn't mention 2017 but was written for that version originally as my bookmarks still show!.

Hello Bigiano,

and have you tried adding this backup in the desktop Acronis True Image? This should also provide you with the possibility to recover data (and then move them to your phone manually)

Steve, The computer is recognized under port 58082. It is when I browse from the mobile app to the computer that I get the error string mentioned above.

Hello Ekaterina, right clicking on the context menu opens the file in TI as seen in the enclosed capture. It appears that it wants to create a new backup.....never seen tat before.

I am also attaching the file details in case they can be helpful

I do not think that it is valid to try to use the Add existing backup option for mobile .tibx type backup files, plus if this is already in the default location on your computer, then it should already show on the computer in the main ATI GUI under Mobile devices.  (Screen shot is from ATI 2019 as do not have any boxes with 2017 on).

I would suggest trying to follow the ATI 2017 User Guide: Recovering data to a new smartphone - follow the steps given here.

I followed the instructions. After reading the QR code the mobile app say Nothing to Recover. In settings the Connected Location is correct and it shows a local connection to the computer containing the backup, Clicking on Browse and recover shows the same computer as local connection. When I click on the computer it goes to the homepage on the mobile and gives me the same error string mentioned above.

Both phones have the same error string. The connection to the computer is perfect as I am using the connection to transfer files. Also...the mobile TI sees the computer for a new backup.....

Sorry but I am running out of ideas for this problem.  My own experience with using the Mobile app have been patchy in that I have only been able to get the backup to the Cloud to work, and all my own attempts to backup to my computer have not been successful!

If your password database is important to you, then I can only suggest opening a Pay per Incident support ticket - see KB 2703: Purchasing Acronis Support Program - this is because your ATI 2017 product is long out of support.  (The alternative would be to consider upgrading to ATI 2019 which would then give you free support until after the next version of ATI is released).

Steve, thank you for your help. I researched the error string and it is a java error. I upgraded to ATI 2019 and the connection issue got resolved. However, I am only getting four types of items to restore: Media, Contacts, Calendars and Messages......I need other stuff, mainly one particular app and its database. In ATI 2017 there was no choice and I was under the impression that the whole phone got backed up.

Sorry to tell you that that is all that the Acronis app can backup because does not have root authority for anything else!

Do you have your smartphone backed up via the built-in features, i.e. to your Google account for Android phones, or to the iCloud for iPhones?

Yes, but I think it may have overwritten itself. Do you know if there is a way to look at the backup from a desktop computer? If the date is good, it might work.

I screwed up and entered the wrong password into the app, and it has locked me out. I have a backup of the encrypted database which I don't know how to crack. It is a Zetetic database in Sqlcipher. If I only could find a program to bruteforce the original password that I forgot, I would be good.

I looked at the Android backup, and it shows only 21 apps were backed up. Chances are that the poor thing that Google calls backup and restore....never backed up my Zetetic app

I have just managed to get my Samsung mobile to backup to my laptop computer so can see how to look at the contents of the .tibx file that was created.

I am using ATI 2019 so the display should be the same as you are now using.

2018-12-07 Mobile browse files.png2018-12-07 Mobile drive files.png

The first image shows the GUI where there is a Browse files button shown, which when clicked will open up the 'Acronis Drive' (M:\ drive by default) in Explorer where you should be able to browse the contents of the archive file and use normal copy commands etc.

I can't see the contents as you are doing. When I right click on the file in the PtogramData folder it opens up ATI 2019 but it does not show the contents of the tibx file. In any case if the apps were not backed up I have everything else. Cheersm
