Scheduled cleanup doesn't work

Thread needs solution

During several versions I use the same backup routine. Daily incremental backup, after 6 times a new total backup and cleanup of backups older than 14 days. However, with the ATH2017 the old files will not be removed from my external SSD.

Any idea?

Have you edited the backup task at anypoint since it started running?  Modifying the task will reset the version chain.  As an example...

You have 1 full + 6 incrementals that run each day.  After incremental #5, you decide to edit the task and save the changes.  Your version chain count has now been reset so you need to wait for 6 more incrementals before the next full will run (assuming you don't modify the backup task again).

In your chase, because you have it also set to cleanup 14 days after the version chain, that means you have to wait a full 14 days until the version chain completes so this means it will take longer still (the 6 new incrementals + 14 days on top of that = 20 days).

My recommendation....

I don't know how many version chains you want to keep, but I would not use the 14 days.  Instead, I would keep more version chains and set that to a specific # like 3 or 4 or whatever you like.  That way, if /when you reset the version chain count (modifying or editing your backup task in the future), you don't have to wait 14 days, but only as long as it takes to complete the version chain if you've already hit the max number of version chains that have been set.
