Unable to delete backup scripts

Thread needs solution

When I installed Acronis True Image, I created two backup scripts.  One is marked as "Ken-PC" and was to back up the entire PC.  the other is "my disks" and backs up selected disks.  I don't want the one marked "Ken-PC" but when I delete using the Acronis interface, it comes back the next time I call Acronis.  In addition, it has settings I can't seem to change (incremental instead of differential backups, backups every day instead of weekly etc.).  I used Acronis chat and the agent removed "Ken-PC" remotely and the associated backups, but again they reappeared the next time I booted Acronis.  I would really be greatful for any ideas on how to permanently get rid of it.  Thanks!

Ken, you can kill it by manually navigating to the script folder.

Close down the Acronis applications.

Navigate to the scripts folder - C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts

Open up the .tis files with notepad and look for the name of the backup that coincides with the one you want to delete.  It should be about the 5th line in with somethign to the effect of:

<display>Your_backup_name</display>

Then, close notepad and manually delete that .tis file with Windows file explorer.

Hopefully, that does the trick, if not, you may want to let the database rebuild itself...

-------------------------------

Stop all Acronis services (control panel >>> administrative tools >>> right click services and "run as administrater"

Navigate to the hidden folder and rename it to database .old or whatever you want:

                C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts

                C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Database

Start services and launch Acronis and it should rebuild the database automatically.

You're welcome.  I noted a boo-boo in my earlier post - if you decide to rebuild the database adn want to keep your existing scripts, only rename the database folder, not the scripts folder - sorry about that (copy and paste from another post that was targeted at rebuilding the database and having no scripts to start with).

Victory was short-lived, as the unwanted script is back (Ken-PC).  It must be that when TrueImage is booted, there is a default script formed.  It has the same unwanted settings as before, incremental instead of differential etc.  The .tis file is back also.  I tried rebuilding, but I can get as far as renaming the Database folder to Database.old, but it tells me the folder is open in another program.

Kenneth, in order to rename the Database folder you need to first stop all Acronis Services and then end all Acronis programs.  If you don't do this in this order then the services will restart the programs and the locks will remain.

OK, I did this and had the same response.  Then I had a post on the chat utility that the solution is to run "task zap" with a series of command line prompts.  So far I have been unable to do this because the command line prompts result in "The RPC server is unavailable".  So here is my situation: It appears Acronis is intended for advanced users.  I am not one, just a photographer trying to back up my stuff, but with limited time and advanced computer skills.  Can I get a refund and search further for a solution?

Kenneth, sorry to hear that you are not making progress here.  Acronis does work well for normal users so the problem you are reporting is not one that most users would be expected to encounter.

For the schedmgr.exe tool (that is needed to run a task zap command) this should be run as Administrator to have the necessary authority to perform the command.

In terms of asking for a refund, then you will need to contact Acronis Support about this, we are just users here in the forum like yourself.

OK, I slowed down and went back over everything.  It looks like the task zap may have worked.  I do want to thank all of you for your help and patience.

Kenneth, thanks for the further update, hope all continues to work well for you.
