Which Version of ATI to choose for a new PC?

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I created a backup of my old Win XP on my old PC using ATI 2010. When I tried to install ATI 2010 on my new Win 10 PC, it complained about some unknown hard disk. Is that due to the installed SSD? ATI 2017 seems to be able to install on it. At least I was able to install the trial version. I want to do a file based restore of the old *.tib to Win 10. But I do not find any restore option in the trial version. Will that be included in the purchased version of ATI 2017 home? I prefer mounting the old *.tib as a disk volume on Win 10.

Is there an upgrade path from ATI 2010 to ATI 2017?

kind regards

Heiner

Heiner, ATI 2010 does not have support for EFI systems which I would suspect that your new Win 10 PC is using, plus there may be compatibility issues with the backup archive .TIB files created by ATI 2010 being read by ATI 2017.

See KB 5684: EFI Based Operating Systems Support in Acronis Products for the first point, and KB 1689: Backup archive compatibility across different product versions that deals with archive compatibility between versions, then finally KB 56196: Windows 10 support in Acronis products.

If you still have your old Win XP system then I would recommend making a backup of this using the ATIH 2017 standard Rescue Media which would then give you a compatible backup archive file to bring to the Windows 10 system to let you restore files & folders from it.

Have you tried just double-clicking on the ATI 2010 .TIB file in File Explorer on Windows 10 to see if it will allow you to open it and explore the contents, if it does then you can use normal copy & paste commands to get the data transferred?

Hello Steve,

I read that elder ATI Programs cannot restore from newer TIB Files. The other way round it works.

I installed ATI 2017 trial on my new PC. If I now double click a TIB File, it is opened in Windows explorer like a ZIP archive. I have to double click again on a folder to step into it. Each double click takes several seconds of time. This is no fun of work. I expected to mount a TIB File as a new disk volume and smoothly navigate through it like in ATI 2010. Is that limited off only in the trial version of ATI 2017?

Heiner, I haven't experienced any slowness when navigating through my own .tib files from Explorer so don't see why the trial version should be any different.  Have you tried mounting the same .tib file to a drive letter to see if that is also showing the same slow reponses?

ATI 2017 trial does not offer an option to mount a tib file.

On Win XP with ATI 2010 mounting a tib file was always the faster option than stepping through it in windows explorer.

I definitely get an option to Mount in my ATIH 2017 installed version though all my current .tib files are for disks & partitions - this may not be offered if you are looking at a files & folders file.

Thank you very much.

When I try to purchase ATIH 2017 Upgrade, then I am always directed to a page with price in USD. There my IBAN is not accepted. Where do I find the page with price in EUR?

Heiner, try going to http://www.acronis.com/de-de/
