Access and use older backups - after move...

Thread needs solution

I can't seem to get my new version of Acronis True Image 2018 to recognize previous on-line backups.

In this case, I manually moved the folder from one HDD to another. The drive letter and the folder tree is the same.

This was done to provide a larger capacity for my on-line backups.

Now, when I need to restore an object from a prior backup, none of the versions were "found" yet they all appear in the folder.

The backup data dates back to 05/2016 (obviously prior to v2018).

I upgraded the 2016 version on 9/2/2017 to 2018 (3 devices). The current build installed is #9660.

I have used this version prior to today (10/14/2017) and prior to the move to a new HDD.

The last full backup was performed on (8/25/2017; v2016) and the next incremental was done on DOP (9/2/2017; v2018).

The .tib files were manually moved after that date (not using the move option of the Acronis product.)

How do I get Acronis to recognize the backup versions I have?

Additionally, the backup profile simply vanished even though no action was taken to delete it or the backup tree.

So, it boils down to:

  1. I need to be able for Acronis 2018 to recognize prior backups. How may I setup Acronis to make this recognition?
  2. I need to be able for Acronis 2018 to use existing FULL backup created on 9/2/2017 in the incremental backup going forward. How may this be done?
  3. I need to be able for Acronis to be able to restore some important files from prior year (all the way back to 7/31/2016 - which is an incremental backup based on the full backup created on 7/11/2016.)

Any attempts to add a file (either FULL or INC) while using the restore option fails with error:

With the disappearance of the backup profile, Acronis doesn't even let me enter the target location where I moved the backups to. How do I get it to recognize the target location on the new HDD (even though the drive letter and file tree are identical to the original location?)

I need these files, and is the reason that Acronis was selected.

I've actually been a customer since 2009 and never had this type of issue.

It's my bad that I didn't take an image of the error(s); and now it doesn't re-create because the original backup profile is missing. I have tried to re-create the original profile settings the same, and was successful. Yet, the "Recovery" button fails to even permit me to enter a recover-from location, much less select the .tib versions to recover.

Someone please help.

Thank you!

Jim

Jim,

You need to add the existing backups back into the application and reconfigure them to get things working again.  By moving them as you did you have orphaned the backup files so to speak.

Click on the downward pointing arrow as shown in the image below and click on Add existing backup.  This will allow you point the application to the location on the new disk where the backup file is.

Once you have added the backup into the application then click on the Reconfigure button and re-select the destination again as shown in the next image.  Should get things working.

Enchantech, All I can say, is you're a life saver (and I don't mean the candy.)

Thank you!

Yet, I must impose on your good graces one more time, please.

In my target folder, I have _full_b1_s1_v1 (1) and _full_b2_s1_v1 fully system backups (actually there are more, but...)

I know that these are the "master" or initial fully drive backups. Both go from _full_bn_s1_v1 to _inc_bn_s6_v1. (obviously, the subsequent incremental backups from the master.)

Do I have to add each of them back as well?

And do I have to add in both the _b1_ and _b2_ masters as well (they both have the same name the Acronis Backup side panel anyway)?

Thank you again for your very valuable help!

Jim

Jim...when you add a backup, ATI will "Load" all of the .tib files associated with the backup chain.  If you load a "full" backup tib file and some of the files are not included, then ATI believes that those files are not part of the chain.  I would recommend adding the specific "full" tib file that you want loaded.  If there are earlier files that are part of the chain, ATI will add them automatically.  Once the backup is added, you should be able to navigate to the desired file(s) and recover them.
