Acronis "needs to be unintstalled because it isn't compatible with the update"...?
I have a Windows 10 machine. It is attempting to update to "Version 1709". It's gotten to 49% of "Preparing to install" the update, and a window has popped up saying:
"The following programs need to be uninstalled because they aren't compatible with the update: Acronis"
I'm running Acronis True Image 2018. Is Acronis no longer compatible with Windows 10? If not, is it anticipated that Acronis will provide an update which IS compatible? If this Windows message is incorrect, is there an article explaining how to get around this error message?
Thank you!

(Sorry for my tardy reply. I hadn't received notice of your response.)
I'm on Acronis True Image "Version 2018, Build 10640". The "Account" page says that my "product is up to date."
My system is running 64-bit Windows 10. Until fairly recently, my computer was running Windows 7. Until this "uninstall Acronis" message, I've just been doing updates (to both Acronis and Windows 10) when and as they flashed messages asking to be updated.
Please advise. Thank you!

I don't know if it matters, but my installation is Windows 10 "Pro".

Elizabeth, thanks for the further update.
At this point I would suggest the following approach:
- Make sure you have a full backup of your Windows 10 Pro system.
- Create the Acronis Rescue Media for ATIH 2018 on CD/DVD or USB stick.
- Use the option in ATIH 2018 to 'Save settings' for your backup tasks
- Follow the steps in forum topic: [How to] uninstall a previous installation and completely remove ATIH 2018 and clean out any residual data from any earlier versions.
- Restart the computer and perform the Windows 10 upgrade to 1709.
Note: You can use the Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant if you want to ensure you have a good, clean Windows upgrade. I have used this on some of my computers which had problems going the Windows Update route for this upgrade. - Once you are satisfied that Windows 10 - 1709 is installed and working, then download the ATIH 2018 build 10640 full installer from your Acronis Account and reinstall it as Administrator.

Follow-up: I followed the instructions, as best as was possible (since various parts apparently didn't apply in my case?). Not only was it still not possible to update my operating system, but Acronis was not actually (fully) uninstalled, having left bits of itself everywhere.
Then we discovered that somehow the official process messed with the operating system in such a way that the Recycle Bin no longer worked.
I am very thankful that my son does computer repair. It took some specialized tools, together with his knowledge, experience, and many hours, but he was finally able to fix things enough that I was able, after only a few more hours, to get Acronis uninstalled in reality.
I'm sorry, but if Acronis can cause such harm from a simple system update, I can no longer afford to use Acronis. I'd had various issues down through the years, and had heard tales of how Acronis is almost malware or ransomware, but I'd stuck with Acronis anyway. But I can't do this any more. Sorry.
P.S. for other readers: My son recommends EaseUS Todo Backup, and it's what I've got installed on my system now. It's got a free version, and even the paid version costs hardly anything.

Elizabeth, thanks for providing your update and information on what has been done.
I have no explanation for why it was so difficult to uninstall Acronis from your computer, and would be interested if your son could provide more details of what he had to do to remove it, if that is possible? This may help other users if they encounter a similar scenario.
I would recommend sending feedback to Acronis about this issue which you can do via their web page at http://www.acronis.com/en-gb/support/feedback.html
I wish you well with your move to using the EaseUS Todo Backup product and hope that this works well for you.
For other users who may read of this difficult saga, I can only say that this is a very unusual case and is not in any way typical of the way that Acronis True Image works for the overall majority of its users. I have personally performed many Windows 10 Updates / Upgrades with different versions of ATI installed and have never encountered the issues described in this topic, plus have only seen 1 or 2 posts in these forums telling of such issues.

I have had to uninstall ATIH 2017 from my computer as it caused me problems (and a lot of lost time) with Windows 1709 update from which I had to roll back several times before I indentified ATIH as being the problem.
After each attempt at updating to 1709, my music program Cubase 9.5 pro would no longer load... and as I am a musician and this is my daily work tool, I had to roll back after trying unsuccessfully to trouble shoot the problem.. Also Windows explorer would often become unresponsive in 1709 and crash the computer.
I finally tried uninstalling ATIH, which did not properly complete, so I had to spend yet more time stopping all ATIH services and manually deleting the Acronis program folder. As soon as I did this, hey presto all was well again with my computer and music program. I feel certain that ATIH was indeed the culprit and will not be re-installing as I don't want this to happen again when Microsoft's Spring 2018 update comes along. Microsoft are quite aggressive now at forcing these OS updates on users. I am going to have to use another program for my backups. It's a shame but this has put me off ever again using ATIH for this task.

Richard, welcome to and farewell from these User Forums.
Sorry to hear of the issues you have found with ATI 2017 on your computer.
At the risk of sounding like an apologist for Acronis, this has never been my own experience and I have been running both ATI 2017 & 2018 versions on Windows 10 with each new build version as it came along, currently with the 1709 Fall Creators Update, all without any issue.
I am also on the Windows Insiders fast track and have already got the 1803 Spring update installed along with ATI 2018 and again all is running smoothly for me.
Please note that all MVP's, myself included, as just experienced users and are not employed by Acronis - all views expressed are purely our own.

Steve, thank you for your reply.
I am glad that you and no doubt many others have had no problems with OS updates.
However from reading other posts where people have had problems, my best guess is that this was a drive and file system handling issue between ATIH and the Microsoft update that can happen under certain system specific circumstances.
Apart from daily backups, I had used ATIH with success a year or so ago for making a disc image when migrating my system hard drive to an SSD, and should I need to do this again at any stage I would re-install ATIH for that purpose and then uninstall afterwards. However for backups I will now use another program that does not run so many background processes. Hopefully the impending 1803 update will go without problem!
