Acronis WinPE Boot media

Thread needs solution

I managed to create an Acronis WinPE USB boot stick on my Windows 7 machine but I need to know how to customize it for programs and drivers. Right now it is no more useful than the simple basic Acronis rescue media. The only difference is I get a Windows Splash Screen when it starts up. It automatically runs a script in a DOS window that loads the Acronis program but the desktop has no common Windows features. There is no Start Menu button or any other programs common to Windows 7 available? Is this normal or am I doing something wrong here? I expected the WinPE rescue media to contain some basic windows features and programs! Can I add these latter myself and if so where can I find some good information on how to do this? I need something basic here as I'm not a programmer or a highly technical guy. I can't find anything in the Acronis help files about this issue. In creating the WinPE boot media the documentation said I first had to load either Windows ADK 5, 6, or 10 (64 bit) to successfully create the Acronis WinPE boot media. Well I couldn't find any ADK 5 or 6 on the microsoft website and it said the 10 version was for machines running Windows 10 only. First I tried using something I found called AIK for windows 7 but this didn't work. Then I read someone suggesting you need to use ADK 8.1 in the forums and it would work with Windows 7 so I tried that using the link they provided. It seemed to work and allowed me to create this Acronis WinPE boot stick successfully. It was confusing because I was assuming that ADK 8 was only for Windows 8 and ADK 10 is only for Windows 10. I'm still not sure I'm using the correct ADK version for my Windows 7 (32bit) operating system. Anyway, I'd sure like to know if I'm doing this correctly and how to customize the Acronis WinPE USB boot stick so I can add my own Windows programs, start menu and drivers. Thanks for any help here.

Sounds like you did things right enough to create and make the media boot.  You can find version cross reference in the link HERE

WinPE is a bare bones OS.  It can be customized to an extent.  The MVP community here developed an advanced version of WinPE for user of this Forum.  Look to the right of this post and find MVP User Tools and Tutorials.  Open that link and you will see links to download a Basic and an Advanced version of the creation tool we use.  There are readme files for each as well.  At the top of this 2018 Forum page in the Sticky section you will find a Thread titled MVP Tool - Custom ATI WinPE Builder, a discussion thread with more info.
