Active protection loss after 12510 update?
After updating Acronis True IMage 2018 from release 11530 to 12510, Active Protection is neither automatically activated, nor can it be activated afterwards. The activation screen signals: "searching for the service" constantly.
On my main PC I just let it be de-activated, the other one I needed to set the system back to an earlier status, so the non-functioning Active Protection under 12510 automatically disappeared when setting my program disk back to 2nd of july and so 11530 is again present. I will not update this 2nd PC to 12510 again until; this problem is solved
PS One PC was updated before via the "restore the program" feature, the other by a separate executable

Thanks for the quick response. In my case this AAP service "is being stopped" and whatever I try in activating it (start or similar command) is NOT working. Tomorrow I will try a new "repair install" of the 12510 release

Please ensure that you do the repair install using an Administrator account in order for ATI / AAP to have the necessary authority / privileges to work correctly.

Restore installation executed as suggested, with the virusscanner set at a lower protection level: still NO active AAP. Checked the Windows Firewall settings: all Acronis functions, AAP included have local and netwerk access. I will keep my 2nd PC on the older release for the time being. Something definitely changed and not for the better. :-(
(Boths PC's are on Windows 7 SP! 64 bit and fully updated to the latest MS versions of drivers...etc)

Would recommend that you open a Support Case with Acronis for this issue - it is not one that I can replicate or have seen on my computers but nearly all are running Windows 10 64-bit these days.

Well only 40% in the world is now running Win10, while Win7 is still at 47%, so this Windows can not be forgotten. On the other end: I upgraded from True Image 2011 to 2018 for its improved backup functions, Active protection was an unexpected extra. No great loss to me, I will just be careful in my updating schedule for this program.....

If you upgraded directly from ATI 2011 to 2018 without first uninstalling the old application, then there could be remnant from the old product getting involved here, though that does not explain why all was OK until you installed 12510?
One good thing with 2018 is the ability to Save your task settings and later Import these back, so this leads to a further suggestion which would be to do a clean install of 2018 #12510 using the Acronis Cleanup tool inbetween doing a normal uninstall and restarting to do the new install.

2011 uninstall was enforced when installing my original 11530 2018 driver package and the program worked fine, AAP included. Afterwards an update was also enforced by Acronis with a new 11530 file under the same file name (announcement when installing it on my 2nd PC and subsequent download). This also worked fine, AAP included.
The AAP problem on my first PC came about when following Acronis guidelines to look for updates by clicking downloads on my account page. Suddenly the file name was changed to 12510 and instead of an update line in the install box now the two choices were either a repair installation or removal of the existing 11530 release. As indicated by Steve Smith earlier, the repair option should be chosen, after which the AAP function stopped working
Of course a rigid uninstallation followed by a clean install of 12510, windows restarts included is an option one could envisage. But I feel the Acronis company changed the update procedure when moving from the 11530 releases and should take action in future releases. Either by including an uninstall feature on any version already present BEFORE the latest release is installed or providing a patch for correcting this obvious error in the 12510 release
I am not in a hurry though, the backup function in 11530 works and saved my 2nd PC after a complete breakdown. On my first PC it will work too and the ISO for the recovery disk is numbered 12510 and recovery worked fine on my 2nd PC when restoring the SSD system/program disk from a tib file made by 11530 and stored on my backup HDD .

Sorry but the above is not my experience with upgrading from 11530 to 12510 - this was just a normal upgrade on all of my computers and the only time I have seen just the options for Repair or Uninstall have been when the new update has already been installed, hence these were correct options to offer to the user.

Problem is solved, AAP is now running after a simple Windows 7 restart! I read the detailed FAQ's on installation issues and solutions for the True image 2018 program and noted that even when the installation program does NOT ask for a Windows restart one has to perform it anyway to assure a correctly working program. Indeed, never did the Acronis installer ask for a restart during 11530, 12510 install or in any of the equivalent repair install procedures.
My conclusion remains that Acronis made an error in its software install process, but it is only a simple one. Of course anytime during the coming months a Microsoft Windows update forcing a restart would've happened such an event also would have worked.

Glad to hear that this issue is resolved. One thing that I do look at on my own computers is the Up Time as shown in the Windows Task Manager > Performance tab (Win 10) as this tells the truth about whether the computer has done a real shutdown / restart recently or has been imitating this by going into a hibernation state?
