Boot media incrementals

Thread needs solution

When using the ATIH2018 boot media to create an incremental, should I choose:

1.  the CHAIN (the one on top), or

2.  the original FULL (just below it, the first in the list of the expanded chain) , or

3.  the most recent INCREMENTAL in the chain (the last in the list)?

I guessed #1, I hope I guessed correctly.

Interesting question!  Have to admit I only remember making Full backups when using the rescue media so haven't had to decide on which option but suspect that I would tend to consider option 3 rather than others (just my guess without booting in to the rescue media and double-checking on what I would see!).

I'm also not sure - as I usually just do a full with rescue media.  I would guess 1 or 3 too.

So, what are the names of the resulting backup for your original backup and newly created one?  That should help identify if worked as expected (that and the size of the resulting new backup .tib file - which is hopefully much smaller than the original full).

So the filenames look good.  With only a couple incrementals it's difficult to know from the incremental filesizes.

I just posted a ticket with Acronis, but I was only eligible to by checking that it was about recovery, so I dunno if they'll answer me.

You're results look good - I think you're good to go.  If possible, you could test a recovery to a DIFFERENT disk (an old one or a secondary one) - just to confirm the recovery results.  Based on what I see though, it looks like it created the next incremental correctly.

Acronis Support got back to me, no answer yet but I just wanted to share the photographs of my screen I took to clarify exactly what my question is about.  The last photo is the one my question is about (I just took the others so they could see the 3 screens that preceded the screen I'm asking about).

First, I had forgotten to wonder about the previous screen (where I've been selecting the last incremental in the chain).

I asked about this and my original question today on the phone with Acronis Support (see postscript).

On the screen (the last one) which I originally asked about, he said selecting (my option #1) the top row (for the whole chain) was correct (who knows, if I'd asked about instead selecting the last incremental [my option #3, which I had over time come to agree with Steve was probably the right choice] perhaps he would have told me that that is also correct; unfortunately as you'll see in my postscript I ended up feeling lucky to get as much clarity as I did).

I also asked about the penultimate screen, on which I've been selecting the last incremental in the chain; he said that was correct.

Postscript:
After a frustrating email support ticket exchange in which the Support agent showed no sign of reading what I'd written to him or on the thread (asking in every response the same question "which operation you are trying to perform?") that I'd already answered in every writing including my original and when I started this thread).  Well finally I copied my third email to managers@acronis.com and I far more promptly got a phone call...from the original agent who I had complained about.  At first instead of answering my specific question he made a statement that was incomprehensible to me then asked if I understood it.  I said "no" and he immediately wanted to end the call because my ATIH2018 is out of support.  I said hold on blah blah (including that I appreciated them addressing my inquiry despite the end of support and repeating that the community would benefit) then he let me ask my very specific 2 questions and thankfully gave me the above 2 very clear concise answers (which I lean towards trusting despite the unharmonious context).
