Can't Figure Out Recovery Process on TI-2018

Thread needs solution

I've created a "full" back up of my "Entire PC" and also the "first" Differential.  So, I decided to see what it's like to do a "recovery" even though I don't need too.  Just to get the feel of it on TI-2018 as my last version was TI-2010 on my old XP machine.  Well, as I guess everyone knows, things are very different in the new version.

I hooked up my external drive where I have the backups stored and tried to do a recovery via the C: drive, which didn't go well as it couldn't find files and such.  So, I booted up with the DVD and I browsed to let the SW know where I wanted it to look, so "we" found the two files (full and diff).  To the best of my adventure it appears that I can't "look" at the "contents" of the backup at the file level.  I clicked on the "more information" button, and it showed my my "C & D" drives, but I could not get down any further to the folders and files.  In the TI-2010 version, I could look at things just like I was in File Explorer, but I can't seem to break the code on how to do it now.  I've got everything done as to being prepared for a problem, but I'm not so confident if I "needed" to do a recovery that I could make it happen.  Shouldn't I be able to "extract" a file from a "full/diff" backup to recover if I want too and not have to do a "total" recovery just to see if things work ?  In TI-2010, I could boot up with the CD, go to whatever backup I had on my external storage and get down to the file level if I wanted too.  Is that option gone now ??  Also, I can't figure out how to ask this forum to send me an email when a response happens.  Once someone responds, then I have the choice to check the box to have a notice sent, but when I initiate a new topic, I can't find that box.

You should be able to do what you wish in Windows. If you go to Windows explorer and select the backup you want to explore and right click select the Acronis item, then select mount, and it would mount the backup - and assign a drive letter. Alternatively double click on the backup and it will open the backup which you can then explore.

I assume you can do the same using the recovery media - I have not done so for a year or two, so I cannot guide you through the process.

Ian, I followed you instructions as to the "Windows" option and it worked fine.  I was able to mount the C & D drives from my back up external USB drive and could look at everything down to the file level.  When I booted up with the DVD boot disc, things got a lot more confusing.  The right click "mount" option did not show like it did with Windows loaded normally.  When I clicked on "recovery", I had an option for "partitions" or "folders/files", so I chose the latter.  Then I got a window that had the choice of "original or different path", but the "original" was shadowed out and I gave up as I didn't want to do something to get myself in trouble.  My goal here is to "prove" to myself that I can do a "successful" recovery with the new Acronis version (vs my old version of 2010) and just wanted to try it with a "test" non important file.  I don't want to do a "total" recovery when I'm in the "learn" mode.  I had to do a recovery on my old XP machine several times with my TI-2010 SW and it worked great.  I just want to get to that spot of confidence again with this new W-10 machine and TI-2018.

I have not tried to do this from the ATI 2018 recovery media. I have done so with ATI 2017 recovery media, but that was more than 6 month ago.

"Then I got a window that had the choice of "original or different path", but the "original" was shadowed out and I gave up as I didn't want to do something to get myself in trouble. " A wise precaution; the main possibility for trouble is to overwrite files on your system, which probably explains why that destination is greyed out. Select a different directory, either one you created for that purpose, or get ATI 2018 to create the directory for you.
