Cloning to a Backup Drive

Thread needs solution

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I would like to know if I can Clone my OS SSD  on the same external drive that I use for backups. The external drive is much larger that the SSD plus the internal drive that I backup.

If my SSD fails, can I then use the Clone on the backup drive to restore to a new SDD.

Appreciate any help.

If you clone to the same drive as your backups it will overwrite everything on the drive. A clone is an exact copy of the original drive. You would have to clone to a separate drive.

Are your backups Full Disk and partition backups of files and folders? If they are Full Disk backups you can restore them to a new disk in the event of a drive failure.

Walter, in addition to the reply from Tom, please have a read through KB 1540: Difference between Backup and Disk Clone which explains the difference between these two methods of protecting your computer system.
