Cloud Cleanup Options

Thread needs solution

I'm looking for a replacement to CrashPlan now they are discontinuing their home version.

One of the great features of CrashPlan is its ability to retain older copies in a smarter manner than simply x days/weeks/months.

For example, I could retain all backups for the last month which may be multiple backups in a day. This is great for returning to previous states of a file you have edited. For 3 months older than that, just retain once a week. This is great for restoring some file I deleted but I'm unlikely to need the granularity of 10 backups within a single day that old. After that, keep one a year for 3 years. Great for when some long forgotten job rears its head and you need to dig out the archives. And CrashPlan is smart enough to consolidate those older backups, it doesn't simply chuck the in-between backups a way.

So I've been watching Acronis True Image updates ever since CrashPlans withdrawal anouncement, expecting they would fill the gap. But it seems its still offers only the most rudimentary cleanup options. ie. want a file from last week, then you have to backup once or more per day. Want a file from 6 months ago, then you must keep all files for at least 6 months.

So Acronis, is there any chance you will fill the gap and add more features to the cleanup options.

I have sent this via feedback, but I have no confidence that will get any response.  So I thought a user discussion, if anyone else was interested in such a feature, may get some attention.

Hello ddk,

I did see your feedback and I have sent it to the product team for discussion. I am really sorry that we do not have the possibility to reply to every single feedback but we do read them all and get valuable ideas from our users.

We are currently discussing how we could improve our cleanup settings on a global scale but this is a long discussion that has to be measured so I cannot promise any ETA.
