Conversion

Thread needs solution

I upgraded to True Image 2018 because the publicity said it could convert image files to .vhd format for VirtualBox. The help files say they can convert to .vhd(x) but the only option I get in the dropdown is .vhdx which VirtualBox doesn't accept. In desperation, I installed the Windows virtualization feature to convert .vhdx to .vhd , uninstalled it again because it is incompatible with VirtualBox but the resultant .vhd didn't work.

Is there a solution to this - I hate spending good money on things that don't do what they say they will do!

Neil,  I am doing research on .vhd(x), but so far, I don't have an answer.  I can say that Acronis have a 30 day no questions asked refund policy.  Hopefully, you are still within the 30 day window.

Neil, the Convert to VHD option provided with ATI 2018 does not make any mention of providing any compatibility with VirtualBox.

See KB 60209: Acronis True Image 2018: configuring Windows native boot from VHD/VHDX files created by "Convert to VHD" feature

Also the ATI 2018 User Guide: Working with .vhd(x) files and also Converting Acronis backup where the latter starts by stating:

Users of the Enterprise and Ultimate editions of Windows 7 and later Windows versions can convert a .tib image of the system partition into the .vhd(x) format if they want to use the converted .vhd(x) file for booting the operating system. Or, they may want to get the ability to mount images without using Acronis True Image 2018.

You may wish to open a Support Case directly with Acronis on this topic to seek their guidance on using this feature with VirtualBox.
