Delete Incremental Backups

Thread solved

Hello,

I must admit, I have Acronis since 10, but I never used the backup function.

Just 10 days ago I started backing up with daily incremental backups. My System went bad..worse ..and then could not get into WIN10 anymore. Acronis saved me a lot of time!

Now I deleted the last few days backups down to May 25 because there were already some errors. Can I normally continue : just add June 1 to the May 25 and so on?

With other words the gap will not affect any future restore or would I better remove all and start with a fresh full backup?

Sorry about this basic question, but this is my very first time I use a backup like this! (I was not even sure it will work, because it gave me a warning about some corrupted files.)

But now I am very glad I am using Acronis!

Thank you.

Dorian

Hello Dorian. Welcome to the forum!

If you deleted the backups manually you can't continue them, the backup chain is broken. It's not supported to delete backups manually. You should delete the backups in the backup console.

But if you deleted them manually you can continue following this KB: https://kb.acronis.com/content/60918

Thanks in advance!

Dorian, welcome to these public User Forums.

What exactly have you deleted here?

If you have deleted any incremental backup files from within a chain of files that leaves later files in the same chain, then that chain has been destroyed apart from the original initial Full backup image file.

If you have deleted any whole / complete backup chains that include the Full and all Incremental files, then any other chains should still be good to use, though Acronis may complain that it cannot find the deleted files / chain - this is because it tracks all files created within an internal database and deleting files manually using such as Explorer does not update the database!

In the latter case, you can try performing a Validation of the backup task and responding to each pop-up prompt about missing files by selecting Ignore (if offered) else selecting Cancel for that missing file.  If Validation doesn't resolve the issue, then you may need to delete the backup task from the Acronis GUI list then use the information provided by Jose to add back the existing backups again.

thank you for your rely. Let me explain it a little clearer: May 21 I had a full backup with daily incremental until May 31. From May 25 on, I had problems with my computer, so the problems were also backed up.

After I could not get into WIN10 anymore, I restored from May 25 on.

Since May 26-31 were bad incremental Backups, I deleted them from the hard disk, thinking if I need a restore some other time, it might restore the errors on May 26-31 as well.

So I was wondering, if it would work to have my next incremental Backup on June 1 leaving a gap between May 26 and May 31?

I have a dim recollection that with *.tib backups you can delete incremental backups x to n when n is the last incremental backup, and then validate the backup. So long as all incremental backups from 1 no x-1 are present the validation should work.

If the backup chain isn't corrupted yes you could continue the backups.

Thanks in advance.
