New User - Your Advice Regarding Which App is Appropriate

Thread needs solution

Okay guys, My system is a laptop MSI GE72VR 7RF. The bootable disc is a NVME SSD 128 GB. I just bought a 512 GB from Amazon, it will be delivered tomorrow. Now, what I want to do is to migrate the old NVME SSD to the new one. I don't want to re-install windows and the apps that I use. Since it is a NVME, I can't attach it externally and clone the old NVME to the new one. I think I need to create an offline image of the system, and then transfer it to the new NVME after installing it in my laptop. So a bootable media and an image of the old system are required. However, the new NVME is bigger in size so I am not sure if transferring an image is possible or not. So I need your advice before purchasing a license. What apps do I need? Is Acronis True Image the right one for me or not? Can I create a bootable USB to restore the image? Transferring an image of smaller NVME to bigger one, is this an issue?

Thnx

al7amimi, welcome to these User Forums.

Acronis True Image Home (ATIH) 2018 can be used to do what you are asking and the method would need to be by first doing a full disk & partitions backup of your smaller NVMe 128GB SSD drive to a backup drive.

You would need to install ATIH 2018 and create the bootable Rescue Media which can be done using a small USB memory stick (minimum size 1GB - max 32GB formatted as FAT32).

The next step is to shutdown your laptop, replace the 128GB drive with your new 512GB drive, then boot the laptop using the Acronis Rescue Media with your backup drive also connected, then Restore your full disk & partitions backup to the new drive.

Note: ATI should try to automatically resize your smaller backup to fit correctly on your larger drive, but if you find that it doesn't do this, then it is easy to resize the partitions separately using a free tool such as MiniTool Partition Wizard - which you can use from within the running Windows OS.

In addition to the recommendations by Steve you should read through the documentation of recovery of disks and partition so that you have a clear understanding of the entire process.

Okay, one more question. I purchased Acronis True Image 18 and activated my copy. I do have Avira anti-virus and it is doing great job protecting my system, so I dont need the Acronis active monitoring service. I turned it off, but it still stays at the Systray. Is there a way to remove it totally?

Thnx

You will also need to stop the Acronis Active Protection Service and set this to disabled to fully disable this protection feature.
