"Stop all current operations.." question

Thread needs solution

Do I understand correctly that "Stop all current operations when *I* shut down the computer" does NOT apply to the option to automatically "Shut down the computer after the backup is complete"?

(Bolding added to illustrate my understanding of why it works this way.)

That seems the case (I love that I can schedule a pair of backups close together (closer than the time backup 1 takes to run) and backup 2 will wait to start until backup 1 completes, and backup 1's "Shut down the computer after the backup is complete" will wait to take effect until backup 2 is complete

Coyote, I can only refer you to what is written in the ATIH 2018 User Guide on this subject:

Computer shutdown

Location: Options > Advanced > Computer shutdown

You can configure the following options:

  • Stop all current operations when I shut down the computer

When you turn off your computer while Acronis True Image 2018 is performing a long operation, for example a disk backup to the cloud, this operation prevents the computer from shutdown. When this check box is selected, Acronis True Image 2018 automatically stops all its current operations before shutdown. This may take about two minutes. The next time you run Acronis True Image 2018, it will restart the stopped backups.

  • Shut down the computer after the backup is complete

If you know that the backup process you are configuring may take a long time, you may select the Shut down the computer after the backup is complete check box. In this case, you will not have to wait until the operation completion. The program will perform the backup and turn off your computer automatically.

This option is also useful when you schedule your backups. For example, you may want to perform backups every weekday in the evening to save all your work. Schedule the backup and select the check box. After that you may leave your computer when you finish your work knowing that the critical data will be backed up and the computer will be turned off.

The key difference as I understand the above is that the first is triggered (when set) by a user initiated shutdown of the computer which will terminate all Acronis operations whereas for the second option, this allows for an unattended backup task to be completed then a shutdown initiated by the Acronis software.

First, thank you very much Steve!

Oops, I'm really sorry I didn't mention that I carefully studied the manual paragraphs you posted BEFORE I posted.

You understanding is exactly what I thought I understood.
