Syncing Files After Upgrading Computer

Thread needs solution

Is there a way to re-sync files after upgrading a computer?

Basically, I have all the same hard drives with the same files on them.

I upgraded the motherboard, graphics card, memory, and system drive.

All my other drives which contain most of my personal data are on the exact drives as before.

They have the exact same drive letter too.

Is there a way to re-sync the old computer's data stored in the cloud to the new computer so I don't have to upload terabytes of data that haven't changed?

There is no reason to restore since I haven't lost any data. I just want to sync what's in the cloud to the "new" machine.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to these User Forums.

If we were dealing purely with local backup image files, then you could use the option to Add existing backup in the Acronis main GUI, but this is not an option when dealing with Cloud backups.

I would recommend opening a Support Case directly with Acronis Support for this question as they will be best placed to give you a definitive answer as to what is possible or not?

Ideally in a scenario as you describe, it would be recommended to make separate backups of each individual drive in your computer and have multiple backups of the same, keeping copies locally, on a network drive or NAS and in the Cloud, where one copy is kept offline for safety from malware etc.

In terms of backup policy, I am in agreement with Steve - more types and locations the better.

Thank for explaining.

I forgot to mention that I have access to the old drive C:\ which would contain any necessary application data that could be transferred to the new computer, if necessary.

Updated Windows operating system to latest build release.

Uninstalled Acronis True Image 2018 application using Acronis Cleanup Utility same issue persists.

June 2016 upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 on my home PC.

Acronis True Image Home 2011 would not run, not compatible with Windows 10.

Purchased Acronis Upgrade to Acronis True Image 2016 on 28/06/2016.

Installed 2016 which should have removed 2011.

All Windows 10 Upgrades fine to version 1703 build 15063.1029 the version I am stuck on.

All Windows 10 updates since then have failed with an error message

Acronis True Image
Uninstall this app because it isn't compatible with Windows 10

Spent 3 afternoons with Microsoft Support trying to fix it.
Even the ESD-ISO Upgrades failed despite their assurance it would circumnavigate the problem

Purchased Upgrade to Acronis True Image Image 2018 on 28/03/2018 to see if that would clear the problem.

Neither uninstalling Acronis or running Acronis Cleanup alleviate the upgrade failure.

No solution from Acronis Support either at the moment.

The latest version upgrade of Windows 10 that is failing is version 1709 according to my Windows Upgrade log

All I can think of is that somewhere in the registry there is a reference to the old version of ATI. Such references should have been found by the cleanup utility process.

The only solution may be to nuke the existing Windows installation and reinstall windows and your apps (painful process). For some apps with aggressive licencing you may need to uninstall before nuking the Windows installation.

I had to do this on two PC that were trashed by the Windows Creators Update. From memory, The subsequent update did not trash any of my systems.

Not sure it this is of any help but all I can think of.

Ian

One assumption that needs to be challenged here is that "Installed 2016 which should have removed 2011."  Unfortunately, this is not true as there could be left-over components or registry entries from the older 2011 version.

The only definite way to confirm that a full clean install has been done is as described in forum topic: [How to] uninstall a previous installation - I would add in an extra step of double-checking both for any files & folders and also any Acronis registry entries after following the steps given.

Check for any of the following:

Acronis folders.
C:\ProgramData\Acronis
C:\Program Files (x86)\Acronis
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Acronis
C:\Users\[name]\AppData\Local\Acronis
C:\Users\[name]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\ProgramData\Acronis\
C:\Users\[name]\AppData\Roaming\Acronis

HKCU\Software\Acronis
HKLM\Software\Acronis

after updating 11530 Acronis application I rebooted the machine and every time ((after launching Acronis application  )it is asking to reboot the PC.

Did you try doing a full clean uninstall / install of ATI 2018?

PC performance is slow after installing Acronis application.

PC configuration is good "Compaq Presario, Windows 7"

This suggests that the Malware Protection module may have suspicions about some of the applications you are using, although normally you should get a pop-up. Try turning off malware protection for a while and see if things improve.

Please keep us updated on your progress.

Ian

PS Windows 7 is getting on - it is out of mainstream support. While many Acronis users are still using Windows 7.1, most have moved on to Windows 8, 8.1 or 10.

I know Acronis True Image 2018 does not support Fedora Linux operating system.

Kernel-based Virtual Machine running on Fedora (It is a Windows file system.... KVM on Fedora, NOT Fedora operating system )

Can we recovery Windows Machine to KVM?

If we can not recover please suggest any workaround ?

Assuming that you can create the necessary virtual disk in your Fedora KVM, then boot from the Acronis Rescue Media, then it should be possible to restore an Acronis backup of a Windows drive to your KVM disk.  I suspect that you will face a number of challenges to get this working due to differences in hardware, device drivers needed etc.

See webpage:

Running Windows on Fedora Using KVM Virtualization

which may help get you started in the principle of what you are trying to do - it may be worth trying to get your chosen Windows OS working in a vanilla state on the KVM first, then extract any additional device drivers that are needed to be used when you try recovering your Acronis image.

While recovering older backup image using Acronis True Image 2016 application Computer restarts but there is not an ability to use Windows because the Windows Flag Key is empty and Clicking on the Windows Icon on the Left bottom corner does NOTHING. Windows files are missing in spite of the Images being Verified and the Restore indicating that it was successful. Yet the image I took just before I Restored the Computer to the previous versions restored my computer to it current status. But I want to go to a previous version because my machine has slowed down. Apparently, you have a problem when you use partitions from different Image files to Restore the Computer.

Recovery with new. tib image file works fine, an issue with older.tib

The computer was created with a Sysprep Custom install, whereby Windows moved the Application Folders were automatically out of the C:\ Drive (OS) to a different drive, so that all the Data Folders are located automatically on the Data Drive. Do you think this could be causing a problem?

Recovery on same PC .tib files stored on USB external drive

Please suggest.

Workaround to this issue will be fine?

Thank you.

Sorry but I am a little confused by the new questions here when the last conversation was about restoring to a Fedora KVM but now you are introducing ATI 2016 and older backup images etc?

Where possible, it is best to try to keep to just one subject within a forum topic, and to start a new topic when bringing a different subject.

It is also best to provide as much detail of the process being performed as possible, including how any recovery is being performed, i.e. from within Windows or using Rescue media; to the same computer as the image originally was created on, or to a different computer... etc.

Sorry but I am still finding it difficult to understand what exactly the issue you are describing here is?

" While recovering older backup image using Acronis True Image 2016 application Computer restarts but there is not an ability to use Windows because the Windows Flag Key is empty and Clicking on the Windows Icon on the Left bottom corner does NOTHING. "

Are you saying that you completed the recovery but then Windows would not boot?  Sorry but I do not understand what you mean by "the Windows Flag Key is empty"?

" Yet the image I took just before I Restored the Computer to the previous versions restored my computer to it current status. "

Here you are saying that you were able to do a successful recovery using a different backup image file and all worked fine?

" The computer was created with a Sysprep Custom install, whereby Windows moved the Application Folders were automatically out of the C:\ Drive (OS) to a different drive, so that all the Data Folders are located automatically on the Data Drive. Do you think this could be causing a problem?  "

If I understand the above statement correctly, then your backup should include both these 2 drives captured at the same time, then restored together, especially if there are any system folder paths stored on the second drive, such as AppData folders?

After performing cloning operation on target drive 4 TB, unable to use 2 TB hard drive and need assistance to use complete 4 TB hard drive Space.

Is this possible, to repartition the drive or merge with the second volume so that I can have a 4tb MBR drive?

Any workaround would be fine.

The maximum addressable storage space of an MBR partitioned disk is 2TB.  You can create a second partition on the disk and then use that space as another drive.

GPT partitioning does not have this limitation.

Unable to Create Win PE based media fails with error message "Failed to mount the source WIM file"

Refer the screenshot. please suggest

Do you have the WinPE ADK installed?  You will need that if you are using the Advanced method of the tool.  If you use the Simple method then media is built based on your computers WinRE (Windows Recovery Environment).  If WinRE produces the error then your WinRE is missing or corrupt.

Installation application fails with the error message "This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2902"

check in msi logs the same error message

Disable antivirus and firewall install the same issue persists.

Ran Acronis Cleanup Utility and install application same issue persists

Please suggest

Any workaround will be fine...

Please can you clarify exactly which application is giving the problem here?

The Acronis Cleanup tool is only for removing Acronis True Image / Disk Director but the earlier questions were focussed on the Windows ADK (needed for WinPE rescue media).

This  a new query:

Can true image use the runas feature built into windows to run under a special process that ransomware cannot impersonate?

or

Can I run the True image application as a special user that ransomware will not be able to impersonate?

Thank you in advance:

True Image needs to be run with Administrator privileges in order to do most backup operations so any other account you would use with 'runas' would also need these privileges which probably will defeat the purpose of doing this.

ATI 2018 integrates Acronis Active Protection by default and if this is enabled / active, then this provides protection against ransomware threats, plus you should also have other security software installed / active (antivirus, firewall etc).

This is new query:

Please let me know during the cloud backup, Acronis application adds some extra stuff to my hard drive even though the backup is in the cloud.

and

where hidden files stored on Acronis cloud backup for any partition drives?

Thank you

For Cloud backups, Acronis stores metadata related to the source data being backed up in the C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\OnlineBackup folder in a subfolder with your email address.  In my case one of the metadata files is about 350MB in size for a Cloud backup task.

Sorry, but I do not understand your second question? "where hidden files stored on Acronis cloud backup for any partition drives?"

I have a new query.

I cannot find a backup scheme that works like MS SyncToy. The advantage of SyncToy is that it updates the existing backup with only changes without creating incremental updates that need to be merged. Full backup takes to long. it is taking 40 gig. spaces

Running a full backup once a week. Each night I backup only changed files in a folder using SyncToy. SyncToy is not reliable. Can you give me more specific instructions to mimic SyncToy?

Thank you.

There are probably lots of alternatives to MS SyncToy that you can find by doing a search such as SyncToy Alternative.  One free tool that I use is SyncFolders but others use the MS RoboCopy tool already built into Windows.

Sorry, but this new issue for ATI for Mac needs to be using its own new topic and should be raised in the separate Acronis True Image for Mac Forum or raised as a Support Case with Acronis.

I have never used the ATI for Mac application and do not have any Mac computers to be able to assist here.

Thank you for the last answer.

Can we install Acronis True Image 2013 version on windows XP home editions (32-bit operating system)?

Thank you in advance.

Yes, you should be able to install ATI 2013 on that edition of Windows.

Looking at the user manual I found the following:

"True Image 2013 has been tested on the following operating systems:
 Windows XP SP3
 Windows XP Professional x64 Edition SP2
 Windows Vista SP2 (all editions)
 Windows 7 SP1 (all editions)
 Windows 8 (all editions)
 Windows Home Server 2011"
